• Robyn Tries Sleeping With a Broken Heart

  Robyn was in the UK a few days ago doing promo for her Body Talk Pt. 1 where she did a Live Lounge Session over at BBC’s Radio 1. She sang two songs, including a cover of my song of 2009, Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.” So how did the cover sound?

  Robyn pretty much knocked it out of the park. Besides the lackluster backbeat and her forgetting the lyrics briefly, Robyn took the song and made it her own. The original has such a colossal feel and although Robyn’s version didn’t have all the elements (no pun intended) Alicia’s version did she captures emotion in a near flawless manner.

• Alicia Keys On Oprah

  Alicia Keys who is now on tour stopped by Oprah to chat it up with the talk show legend. Our prime reason for tuning in to the episode was to see a preview of the “Put It In a Love Song” video. That did not happen but high quality behind-the-scenes clips were shown.

  Keys also spoke on the 3 artists she would love to collaborate with: Kings of Leon, M.I.A. and Prince. Those are 3 impressive music acts and artists that could have potential for some GREAT music. Keys also performed a stripped down version of “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

• GO SEE ALICIA KEYS IN CONCERT!

  Alicia Keys kicked off her Freedom tour in Canada this past weekend and some lucky concertgoer was able to capture footage. In the video below, is a stirring rendition of “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

  If you don’t know, C loves Alicia Keys and loves “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.” Keys just puts EMPHASIS on those grinding synths and makes it a brand new euphoric experience. There’s a concert in this room right now. We highly recommend you all paying to go see this lady in concert if presented the opportunity.

• Alicia Keys’ First Time on SNL

  The one and only Alicia Keys was the musical guest last night on Saturday Night Live. She warmed the crowd with two very good performances of “Empire State of Mind Part II” and “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

  Her music this era still hits us like it did when we first listened despite many not finding this a great album from her. Be sure to pick up The Element of Freedom, in stores NOW.

  We deserved to be whipped, forgetting to post Alicia Keys’ video for “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” when it premiered. Keys takes on the role of a superhuman who has the ability to heal and harm in the video.

  What can we say, this is Alicia being Alicia. She rides around the city healing animals but when it comes to her love she steals life away from him. The whole concept is a bit far-fetched and the execution wasn’t the smoothest but this song is timeless and doesn’t need a video to help it’s appeal increase. Also, there was a lot of purple in this video…

  A b-side also leaked from Alicia. “Dreaming,” is a soulful slow jam that has a very mature vibe. Her vocals are beautiful and if this is a taste of what will be on the album, we’re not complaining at all. View the official track list after…

• Behind-the-Scenes: “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart” Video + “Dreaming” Snippet

  Billboard.com was there behind-the-scenes with Alicia Keys as she filmed the music video for her second single, “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

  The video looks like it will be amazing and meaningful like all the rest, can’t wait! This song has already received 300+ plays in our iTunes since it leaked last Thursday. It’s easily our favorite R&B song of the year and yes that’s us being a bit biased.

  Also you can listen to a snippet of “Dreaming,” a song that will serve as the B-Side to “Doesn’t Mean Anything.” We’re getting vibes of Sade with this song.

• It Has Arrived: Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart”

  Alicia Keys has not acquired the chart success with “Doesn’t Mean Anything” sitting near the back of the class at #60. This has prompted the songstress to release her second single “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart”, produced by Jeff Bhasker (808′s & Heartbreak).

  The two best words to describe this song; EPIC & MASSIVE. Just like “No One,” this song has instant appeal. As Keys promised, she is trying new things with her sound as this is a bit of a harder sound from her; gritty bass, hip-hop influences similar to “Girlfriend” from her debut, a chorus fitting for an anthem and lyrics so deep you will either be empathizing or sympathizing with her.

  “Doesn’t Mean Anything” finally grew on us but this is on another level and we’re glad she didn’t release this as the first single. We like to go from lower levels to higher levels and releasing this first then “Doesn’t Mean Anything” would’ve been a huge let down. This song should give Keys another #1. We hope she performs this at the American Music Awards 2009. The Element of Freedom is in stores December 15, 2009.

• On to the Next One: Alicia Keys Peforms “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart”

  The all around beautiful and talented Alicia Keys gave the audience of the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball a first listen of her second single, “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart”, produced by Jeff Bhasker. The single is to be lifted from Keys’ fourth studio album, The Element of Freedom.

  The quality is very poor but you can grasp a sense of the song and realize that this will be an emotional heartfelt ballad from the singer. We’re already feeling this better than the first single, “Doesn’t Mean Anything”, which we have warmed up to since her first televised performance on Regis & Kelly. Spotted over at Proph’s.
