• Theodore Elyett Sealy To Represent The Bahamas At Caribbean International Fashion Week In NYC

  And the blessings seem to be infinite for Theodore Elyett Sealy. The 26 year old Bahamian Fashion Designer has been chosen to represent our nation at the inaugural Caribbean International Fashion Week (CIFW) on June 8th, 2011 in New York City. Chosen from 365 applicants, the “Theodore Elyett” label will present its thirteen piece Spring/Summer 2011 collection titled Desert Sun. Read below, for Elyett’s appreciation:

  ” I feel truly blessed to have garnered the support from The Bahamian government to participate in the upcoming international Caribbean showcase,” said Theodore. He adds, “Having the opportunity to showcase in one of the fashion capitals of the world, New York City, is an awesome undertaking. But even more touching is the fact that I am being encouraged and financially supported on this venture by our very own government. When you couple that fact alongside the responsibility of being the sole representative for my country on the world’s stage, it just makes the experience and the thrill of participating even more enriching. I’m grateful to God for the favor I received in my bid to the Ministry for assistance, and I’m looking forward to putting my best foot forward.”

  Elyett will be showcasing along with other Caribbean nations such as Curacao, St. Lucia, Barbados, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Turks and Caicos, amongst many more. Spending an intensive Summer course at Parsons, representing an entire country in CIFW and soaking whatever else NYC has to offer, yup, Elyett must be on cloud nine right now. • In The Bahamas: Travie McCoy & Jessie J Perform In Club Aura

  Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of attending a joint concert put on by Club Aura, located here in The Bahamas, in the Atlantis Resort. The two special performers were two of today’s more popular musical acts: Travie McCoy and Jessie J.

  Travie was the first to take the stage. His band, The Lazarus Project, definitely brought energy into the club that night. Maxwell Drummey of Chester French played the electric guitar like somethin’ else. Travie performed some album cuts including “We’ll Be Alright” and his single “Need You.” Of course he performed “Billionaire” but not before hyping up the audience with 50 Cent’s “I Get Money.” Travie also performed “Cupid’s Chokehold” from his Gym Class Heroes days after revealing that the band’s next album is coming sooner than we think. Travie performed a great set and interacted with the crowd.

  Next up was Jessie J. From the moment she stepped onto stage, her personality was alive. You think stars like Katy Perry have loads of personality, then you need to go and see Jessie J. She did a lot of improvising as you will see in the videos; she told jokes, interacted with the crowd, etc… Her voice was unbelievable. There was a bit of talking going on in the audience when she started to perform “Who You Are.” She stopped, said her bit and by the time that voice started again everyone was silent. What a great set she put on.

  It was an entertaining two hours and we look forward to more concerts in the future. View photos and video footage after…

• C.S. Coverage: Day 3 of Islands Of the World Fashion Week

  The last and final evening of the Islands of the World Fashion week, was dubbed “Fashion Cares for Haiti: The Relief Benefit Fashion Show” where the designers of the night were all Haitian. Fashions from Phelicia Dell, David Andre, Maguy Durce, Savannah Savary, Giovanna Menard (Artisans du Soleil Haiti), Maelle David and Michel Chataigne. There were dresses, jewelry, tunics, and bags. The Haitian designers truly brought it.

  The evening progressed into awards for the talented designers such as Theodore Elyett (Runway to Fashion Week), Georgina Estherr (In Search of the Next Oscar), Oliver Tolentino (Ecofashion) and David Rolle (NexGen award). Elyett, Estherr and Rolle all won scholarships to attend the coveted Parsons University of Fashion and Design in New York.

  At the end of the tumultuous weekend there were no regrets just loads of fantastic memories, trends, style, photos and fashion to share.

  One could only wonder if day 2 of Islands of the World Fashion Week could surpass the first… and the only thing that comes to our minds when we hear this is… “Hell Yeah”. There was a special “In Search of the next Oscar” (not to be confused with the Academy but in representation of Oscar De La Renta) competition, hosted by the ever fashionable and hilarious , Nick Verreos of Nicolaki designs. Two designers, Raynelis Howell (Turks and Caicos) and Georgina Estherr (Dominican Republic) were to show their creative meshing of Prêt-à-Porter (ready-to-wear) and Haute Couture.

  Also starring, were designers like Theodore Elyett (Runway to Fashion Week winner), Oliver Tolentino (The Philippines) and our personal favorite , Indashio (USA). Theodore Elyett was the complete package. His designs were sleek, clean, colorful and bottom line, oh-so-fab!

  Arriving to leave fire on the runway was Oliver Tolentino whose stunning and extremely elegant cuts were simply showstopping. Then of course, you just cannot go wrong with some Indashio!!! His bright colors and bold designs reeked energy. He himself came out in a fluffy pink one strapped dress with a beaded bodice, a blonde wig with a pink bow made of hair as well as bright blue polka dots all over his face.

  All in all, day two definitely topped day one.

  This past week we got to attend Islands of The World Fashion Week 2010, held at the British Colonial Hilton. We made sure to gather the goods to present to you all. The event was held over three days and that’s just how we are going to present it  for you fashion lovers, check it out.

  After waiting months for the event we were SUPER excited to attend the 3rd Annual Islands of the World Fashion Week. Held at the British Colonial Hilton, the event kicked off with spectacular collection of designers like Harl Taylor BAG (Bahamas), K-Bobby (Jamaica), Whitney Miller (Bahamas), David Rolle (Bahamas), Jay McCarroll (USA) and iCandy Swimwear (Bahamas).

  Highlights of the evening were Harl Taylor BAG, David Rolle and Jay McCarroll. First timer to the runway but in no way new to fashion week designer, David Rolle, kept his theme dark and military-esque with lots of blacks, greys and whites. His models ripped the runway in handcuffs adding an interesting effect as well as keeping with the “bad-ass” theme. Another night WOWer was Project Runway’s season 1 winner , Jay McCarroll whose collection of patchwork-like dresses were the quintessential representation of a color wheel. The tights-covered-shoes of each model were an intriguing touch.

  The first night of IWFW turned out to be a fantastic show!

• Exclusive: Katy Perry, Live, From Atlantis + New Song From ‘Teenage Dream’

  Last night, Katy Perry, took to the stage for a concert as part of the Atlantis resort’s Live! concert series here, in The Bahamas.

  Perry kicked off her 10 song set with her hits “Hot N Cold” and “I Kissed a Girl” on a colorful stage set adorned with summery and tropical themed stage props like the coconut trees. Before Perry went into her third song, “You’re So Gay,” she dropped a few lines that made it seem that she dedicated the song to ex boyfriend Travie McCoy. She continued on with a few album cuts, a cover of The Outfields’ “I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love Tonight,” performing her radio hit “Waking Up In Vegas” etc… She treated the crowd with a song entitled “Peacock” which will appear on her upcoming sophomore LP, Teenage Dream. The set ended on an upbeat note with the spunky performer singing her #1 hit, “California Gurls” with loads of giant beach balls being tossed everywhere.

  The concert was energetic, Perry interacted with the audience and she did a great job making the show flow as one. The ballroom was filled with tweens to folks well above middle age and the expressions on all their faces seem to be one of enjoyment. Last night was an experience to remember.

  Oh yes, after the concert we headed into Club Aura where Perry & co. partied it up in VIP with another person who’s been in the headlines as of late, Lebron James. It was just an epic night all around. View the gallery and listen to her perform “Peacock” after…

• It Was Only a Matter Of Time: Justin Bieber Will Come to The Bahamas

  We all know that if there is a Pop act for the children then the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island will recruit them for a concert. Well that will be the case as Justin Bieber will be in the country on June 12 for one of those concerts.

  Bieber’s label takes a page out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and is giving away 4 Golden Tickets to spend an all expense paid weekend with him in The Bahamas in June. The 4 Golden Tickets will be placed in Bieber’s My World 2.0 LP which hits stores on March 23. Good luck!

  For all you locals, we’re pretty sure the resort will be selling tickets to the event, probably $100-$200 a pop.
