• New Music Leaks From Sky Ferreira: “Boys” & “Haters Anonymous”

  Eighteen-year-old Singer/Model, Sky Ferreira, is about to release her AS IF! EP on March 22 along with being one of the many models to star in the cK One ad campaign. The lead single from the EP and theme from the cK ad campaign, “Sex Rules,” is out now. With that, two more songs leaked from the Indie-Pop artist.

  “Haters Anonymous” is another track to leak off the AS IF! EP. The song begins like the other material Ferreira has put out and then switches into this left-field House blur of speech from Ferreira. It sounds like something for the “kids” and then switches back-and-forth between the Pop and… Different for Sky but a nice one at that.

  “Boys” is not to appear on AS IF! but still fits in. As with a lot of the music by Ferreira, “Boys” has a retro yet fresh sound. Whilst nothing revolutionary, Ferreira is bringing a distinct sound from the past and making it her own.

• Sky Ferreira Releases “Sex Rules” Off EP ‘As If’

  Sky Ferreira is straight 80′s in her new single entitled “Sex Rules,” off her upcoming EP, As If, to be released on March 22. A demo of the song surfaced last summer but now the full version is here and thank goodness it has.

  The song is being used for the new Calvin Klein campaign and what a good choice it is despite Klein being huge in the 90′s, not the 80′s. Anyway, the question is, will this exposure and sonically amazing song bring Ferreira the right amount of exposure to push her into the real mainstream?

• Video Premiere: Sky Ferreira “Obsession”

  Yesterday the music video for Sky Ferreira’s US single, “Obsession,” premiered via MTVU. The Marc Klasfeld-directed video follows the theme of obsession closely as Ferreira’s fascination with actor Michael Madsen turns into well, an obsession. She basically becomes the black sheep out of her group of friends as the lines of reality and fantasy are blurred.

  As the video progresses we see glamor shots of Ferreira mixed with clips of Ferreira doing  mischevious things to her friends as Madsen watches on. It’s not until the end that we get to see whether or not this little obsession was truly a fantasy or reality.

  Although “One” is the better song, “Obsession” definitely has the better video as there is more of a story behind the entire thing that keeps the viewers’ eyes glued to the screen

• “Whatcha Gonna Do” With Sky Ferreira

  Another leak from Sky Ferreira has surfaced, let’s hope this does not become a trend. The new leak is a song entitled “Whatcha Gonna Do.”

  This song is so innocent and sounds like something that could be played on a children’s program. The quirky marching band instruments, teasing lyrics and playful nature displays Ferreira’s less-than mainstream appeal throughout. With her debut album dropping in January of 2011, this will surely be an interesting collection of songs.

• The “Obsession” With Sky Ferreira’s First Single

  Sky Ferreira and her label enlist Ryan Tedder to produce her US debut entitled “Obsession.” The single is set to appear on her debut album which will be released in January 2011. The single opens up with an intro comparable to P!nk’s “So What” and quickly progresses into a Electropop anthem.

  After listening to the preview last week we were not sold and still, after listening to the full version it’s not our cup of tea; we just like “One” too much. However, this song has what it takes to shoot Ferreira into the sky to the nearest star. The states better look out because they have a new artist to be obsessed with.

• PREVIEW! Sky Ferreira US Single, “Obsession”

  Sky Ferreira has been massaging our ears with the musical greatness that is “One.” Unfortunately, “One” is too good for the US market therefore she is releasing another single to cater to the fickled country. The result, a manufactured but still catchy song chip entitled “Obsession.”

  Compared to what we’ve heard from Ferreira already, the song is a complete let down and even the singer herself felt that way when she was interviewed by popular blogsite ArjanWrites last month. We will not be completely hard on the song and can admit that the song has an ultra catchy nature which will surely do its job on American radio.

• Sky Ferreira Says “Sex Rules”

  The über gorgeous and talented Sky Ferreira suffered the dreaded leak this morning as an unfinished track from her forthcoming album made its way onto the net. The song entitled “Sex Rules” is stated to be produced by Billy Steinberg & Greg Kurstin.

  The song has a definitive 80′s throwback sound to it with the synths and “elastic” back and forth beats. There’s no telling what will become of Ferreira because you cannot compare her to other pop acts. It’s like she’s singing about provocative topics similar to the way Madonna did but then again Madonna was not 17 years old. Then she is doing Pop like Britney Spears but then again Spears was not so blunt. Finally, you look at Ferreira and besides the few Pop/Dance songs she’s done she looks and sounds like this decade’s Fiona Apple. She’s offering all sort of hues which is great, in the end, because she doesn’t stink of a predictable product. Shouts to Proph…

• Sky Ferreira “One” Music Video Premiered…

  This past Friday, the video for Sky Ferreira’s first official single, “One,” premiered. The video, shot by fashion photog Rankin is executed in a very minimalist way.

  Fashion and simplicity is the focus of this video as the clip could easily be freeze framed to create an editorial for some top high fashion publication. There is also a load of repetition effects to match the song exactly. Ferreira is arriving on the scene and she’s showing her ability to be a chameleon at the same time as leaving her signature on everything she does.

• From “17″ to “One”, Sky Ferreira Releases Official First Single

  A couple of months ago, up-and-comer, Sky Ferreira, released her buzz track and video for “17″ and today she gets official and releases her Bloodshy & Avant-produced “One.”

  “17″ displayed the indie/alternative side of Ferreira in a way of her being this decade’s Fiona Apple. But after being introduced to her by Proph we read that being Blooshy & Avant’s protégé, her music would take the electropop route. Initially we thought, yea why not, let’s dumb down another very talented artist then “One” hits the net.

  Ferreira maintains her unique sonic aura with the synth drenched production in all its repetitive style; it’s like the disco-lite sound of the future. This is what we call original music for the mainstream; this song DESERVES to be loved by radios for it’s catchy nature yet still having a certain amount of depth. Simply put, we love this song to death and want to hear MORE.

  Remember Sky Ferreira, if not click HERE. Well, the Bloodshy & Avant protégé finally released the video for her first single “17.” We really must stop but we’ll let we’re going to steal borrow Proph’s words again:

  Now after a little wait Sky has unleashed her first single onto the world in the autobiographical “17″, a startlingly accurate documentation on today’s underage teens and all the craziness that they get up to when they’re out and about sneaking into clubs and partying with older men.

  Been there done that!

  Along with the brilliant song is it’s slightly disturbing (and uber hipster) music video, thrusting Sky effortlessly into the role of a modern day Lolita as she saunters around L.A. and proves that she’s the ultimate jail bait by banging some older guy back at her place.

  After signing to EMI I was a little worried that Sky was going to get too commercial with her debut album, but my fears have been put to rest after seeing that she’s kept a genuine alternative edge and feel to her first single and video.

  Bradley over at the MuuMuse blog really hit the nail on the head by comparing this to a modern day pop version of Fiona Apples fantastic (and controversial) “Criminal”, and I couldn’t agree more. [SOURCE]

  Ferreira is one of those realistically attractive artists, she’s amazing.
