The entertainer tweeted the cover herself, also stating that the single will be released on Tuesday. Today, Jive Records released the official press release for the new single:

Tastefully posing nude in a field somehwere, Rihanna covers herself with a rose red dress for the single cover of “Only Girl (In the World).”. Whoever the photographer is, he or she really did a great job and even managed to make Rihanna’s longer red hair look GOOD. Red is a favorite color of ours and it’s just as LOUD as can be. The album art is so appealing, inspired by the artist’s paintings who was behind the design of the “California Gurls” music video. She looks sensual, classy and like a whipped up bowl of fun. The absence of text on the cover really makes it that more attractive
The single art on the other hand, is very much a contrast from the beautiful album cover. The cover is much closer to that of “California Gurls”: The bright colors are overwhelming and looks like someone vomited a rainbow popsicle. Well we dub this day as “Mimi Day”, in the music world, as the sheer hype for Mariah’s new single has been building for the past week ever since she announced via her Twitter that it would be released today. Well the single just dropped via Chicago’s B96.
Hmm it didn’t quite live up to the hype BUT after a few spins we’ll be HOOKED. It was the same way with “It’s Like That”. As a matter of fact we’re liking it more and more as we listen to it. The music video for “Obsessed” will be directed by Brett Ratner. He has directed a handful of Mariah Carey’s videos over her career (I Still Believe, Heartbreaker, Thank God I Found You, It’s Like That, We Belong Together, Touch My Body & now Obsessed). We guess it will be a #1 video for a soon-to-be #1 song.
