Nicki Minaj was just on BET’s 106 & Park to premiere the Hype Williams directed video for “Massive Attack.” The video features Sean Garrett and Birdman along with Amber Rose make cameos.
First, we have a confession; the song is starting to grow on us. The production is some left-field type of material Missy Elliot would throw at us. The problem with the song is neither Garrett nor Minaj have that je ne sais quoi to translate the sound to the listeners. Our guess is Minaj was stepping outside of the usual pop/urban regimen and had not quite mastered how to flow over such a record.
Now, on to the video. Sex, colors and a small dose of absurdity is the name of this video. Yes, Minaj implements some military routine to match the song but overall the video just does not state the plot without it having to be said or written. The infinite jointed men with demon contacts were another visual but made hardly any sense. Check the video out!
Last week we messed up and posted Nicki Minaj’s verse from “Stop Da Bullshit” as a snippet from her first single, “Massive Attack,” featuring Sean Garrett. Well, Tapemasters Inc. relaunched their site and wanted to show off by premiering a tagged up exclusive snippet of the single.
*Shakes head, rolls eyes* We’re going to give Minaj and Garrett the benefit of the doubt and wait for the full, untagged CDQ to leak before we critique this.
UPDATE: *continues to shake head, rolls eyes* We’re not “hating” but Minaj has flooded the Hip-Hop game so much that we’ve heard her from every angle. Unfortunately, Minaj is not diverse enough to bring us epic. Then there’s Sean Garrett who brags about all of his work in interviews which now makes us think the song he did with Rihanna won’t even be anything to even speak about. I’m sorry but we need to hear something else.

The mainstream high rollers are laying everything out this week as a snippet of Nicki Minaj’s first single, “Massive Attack,” hits the net.
The preview is only 25 seconds long so we won’t judge right away however by the sound of the preview we’ve heard it all before.
UPDATE: Our apologies, this is NOT a snippet of “Massive Attack.” This is a snippet of Minaj’s verse on Young Money’s “Stop Da Bullshit.” SORRY! WOOPS

You all see ALL that COLOR in the pic above, well expect to see and hear more of that from Rihanna’s forthcoming studio album. Reports hit the ‘net last week that Rihanna was to release her next studio album pronto. The main bit of news was that the happy-go-lucky “Sunshine” Rihanna was to make a return as she departed that brief stint of darkness with Rated R. As time progressed we are finding more and more about this project. Singer/songwriter Sean Garrett spoke exclusively to Rap-Up where he boasted about the song he wrote for Ms. Fenty:
“The record I gave her was very, very positive, very big. It’s a fucking smash,” adds Garrett. “I gave her a humongous radio record. It’s just so infectious. It’s about getting past any drama and just being happy to be alive. It’s an encouraging record. It feels great and it’s got great tempo.”
“I made sure that it was bulletproof. It should be a single unless something crazy happens. It’s hot as fuck. I think it’s a record that’s gonna stay on the radio for a long time.” [SOURCE]
Well Garrett seems more than confident that he has written a song bigger than “Umbrella,” in other words, of course. We’re slowly growing out of that phase of buying into all the hype that comes along with the big pop acts. Although, we’re just as excited to see Rihanna leave the dark alone and get back to sun beams, neon and tropical vibes we will focus our interests elsewhere until it’s time for the single to be released.
With Amerie’s “Why R U” failing to create a major buzz her label is already pushing the second single whilst the album continues to receive the pushback treatment. “Heard ‘Em All” is the official second single.
The Sean Garrett and Eric Hudson produced track, in our opinion, is much better choice when trying to gain radio play than the first. The instrumental boosts a funky rhythm with beating drums and other soulful instruments. You see Amerie is similar to Kelis; unique and in her own lane and you either love her or hate her. Whilst her voice is not the best we admire her for staying true to what she does and not follow the trend of vocoders and synthesizers in this time where everybody seems desperate to be popular instead of just making great music.
So as one of our readers requested yesterday (we try to deliver as much as we can), we have gathered all of the Mario songs that have leaked post Go! era. An impressive 26 songs, 2 of which we posted yesterday, display Mario looking to make a very strong effort with his forth upcoming studio album And Then There Was Me. There are so many highlights from the heap of songs. “So Good In Bed” better known as “Turn Her On” is one melodious smooth R&B jam with a large ingredient of sensuality. Out of all the songs “Emergency Room” featuring Rihanna is the most well known as it was an accidental leak during the time of the whole fiasco along with all the irony. Mario quickly released a statement claiming whilst the female vocals in the song sound identical to Rihanna’s it was just a demo to be presented to her label, could’ve fooled us. You can get a taste of what Mario has to offer by listening to the 2 songs we just mentioned along with the “radio” friendly “Ooh Baby”.

Amerie is set to return with her fourth studio album Love & War later this year. This will be her first album release via Def Jam Records. Tonight the lead single “Why R U” hit the net. BLEH, Amerie has never been one to move us with her music and this sound is not a progression but almost a replica of her previous work. We can go on to try and find details and make this song an excitement to post but it’s not there. Don’t get us wrong some of you will love it but it’s not our flavor, mine so than S. As for the album, we will hear production from Cool & Dre, Jim Jonsin, Tricky Stewart, Dallas Austin, Salaam Remi, Sean Garrett and more.
