Rihanna just released the video for the third single from the LOUD era, “S&M.” Melina, who directed a handful of videos from the Rated R era, is in the director’s seat. Rihanna is addressing all the negative press and media this go around.
With words like flop, cox, goat, slut, Illuminati and many more, Rihanna is putting the spotlight on the criticism and blasting off. This video seems most appropriate considering the recent time. If you go over on Rihanna’s official Twitter page, you will see that it is much easier to get a rise out of the Pop star by tweeting her something rude and nasty than something respectful.
The video takes us back to the ’90′s with a vomit-inducing spectrum of neon colors. The costumes are outlandish i.e. the latex get up. Overall, Melina & Rihanna & Co. did a GREAT job with the video. This is a case where the video makes you like the song.
Pop star Rihanna has much to celebrate these days, well she always has. Her fifth studio album, LOUD, is now platinum status, in the US alone. Once this happens then you know all is well because Rihanna is usually a much quicker seller in other regions. This now brings the personality-filled star to selling 2.8 million copies of the album worldwide. Check out another photo from the “S&M” video shoot after…
On her work schedule, it was PURE nightclub that Rihanna rang in the New Year but where she really celebrated was at the grand opening of Club Marquee. She made an impromptu appearance to the after party of Jay-Z’s Vegas show at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
From the look of it, the party was LIVVVE. Kanye West even announced that Watch the Throne would be “coming in one week” What that means exactly, we’re not sure but expect some information to surface.
This is a nice change to get the big names in the game to put out official material so early in the year i.e. Britney and GaGa. You can head on over to WorldRedEye for photos from the event.
This time of year is the best for partying and celebrating but as far as blogging, not so much. However, there is one thing to look forward to during this time. This would be the incredible United State of Pop mash-up by DJ Earworm, this year entitled as “Don’t Stop the Pop.” The mash-up blends the top 25 hits of the Billboard Hot 100.
This year’s mash-up includes Ke$ha‘s “Tik Tok,” Bruno Mars‘ “Just the Way You Are,” Travie McCoy‘s “Billionaire” featuring Bruno Mars, B.o.B‘s “Nothin’ On You” featuring Bruno Mars and “Airplanes” featuring Hayley Williams, Lady GaGa‘s “Bad Romance” and Telephone featuring Beyoncé, Rihanna‘s “Rude Boy,” Eminem‘s “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie” featuring “Rihanna,” Taio Cruz‘s “Break Your Heart” featuring Ludacris and “Dynamite,” Enrique Iglesias‘ “I Like It” featuring Pitbull, Katy Perry‘s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg and “Teenage Dream,” Mike Posner‘s “Cooler Than Me,” Black Eyed Peas‘ “Rock That Body” and “Imma Be,” Young Money‘s “Bedrock,” Iyaz‘s “Replay,” Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now,” Usher “OMG” featuring Will.i.am and “DJ Got Us Falling In Love” featuring Pitbull, Train “Hey, Soul Sister” and Jay-Z “Empire State of Mind” featuring Alicia Keys.
After two listens it’s obvious that the made-for-radio hits of 2010 focused on melodies. This isn’t Earworm’s best to date; the songs of 2010 allowed for pretty beats but they all don’t perfectly blend together. Despite that, Earworm’s 2010 effort has us reliving all the fun energy of 2010 in a little over 5 minutes.
In other news, those of you who are aged 13-17 and will be spending you New Year’s here, in The Bahamas, can check out DJ Earworm at Club Rush, at the Atlantis Resort, listen below.
Rihanna finished up her first headlining tour in North America a few months ago: Last Girl On Earth. Now, the Pop star is gearing up for her second round, starting in the Fall of 2011. Rihanna recently announced her LOUD tour which will kick off in the UK. View the tour dates and a video of the first week release of LOUD after…
Rihanna may have just decided to step up her performance game but the area she always had on lock is just getting tighter. Rihanna just scored herself her 9th #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 in a little over 5 years. That would be for the first single from LOUD, “Only Girl (In the World).” After that promo boost from her AMA performance and a price drop with the single itself, it was a plan that came out successful.
Rihanna now puts herself in the top 10 artists of all time with the most #1′s in the chart’s history. Although she has a good way to go before she touches Mariah Carey’s achievements, single-wise, she has conquered Carey in the amount of time it took an artist to reach 9 #1′s. Along with that, Rihanna has the most #1′s (7) on Billboard’s Pop chart. Rihanna’s #1′s on the Hot 100 are:
As if that wasn’t enough good news, LOUD, her fifth studio album debuted at #3 with the highest sales number of her career. The album shifted 206,000+ copies in its first week. Congrats to the girl and maybe next time she will debut at #1 on the Billboard 200.
Never has there been a time when we watched a Rihanna performance, back-to-back, more than two times. After last night, that all changed. Rihanna, who was the opening performer at last night’s American Music Awards ceremony gave her most well rounded performance to date in 7 minutes and 33 seconds.
Already dumping the straight locks, a curly haired Rihanna sat on a tree that looked like something straight out of her Rated R era. Starting off with “Love the Way You Lie (Part II),” the entire room was quiet as Rihanna’s improved vocals spread throughout the room. Que the bright lights as Rihanna fell (literally) into her #1 hit, “What’s My Name.” This is when all her island flavor came out; this was the most choreography in a Rihanna performance. Before ending the song, four dancers came out to join Rihanna for a reggae break and then a quick switch came as Rihanna shook her rear (Ricky Martin style) to some deep tribal drum beating. The tribal rendition of “Only Girl (In the World)” made the song that much better. Rihanna finished up with some acoustic vocals that did not go off without a hitch but she did manage to knockout the very last line.
Like we said last night, let the LOUD era be known as the era that Rihanna started to perform.

Barbie’s aka Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday got the leak treatment earlier this week so you know many people were too excited. Our review of the album will be up to accompany the album’s release but in the meantime let’s play a little game of comparing.
Nicki Minaj, before this album’s release, was a frequent feature on other artists’ records. Just as recent as Rihanna’s LOUD album, Minaj is featured on “Raining Men.” Now Rihanna returned the favor by featuring on a track from Pink Friday entitled “Fly.”
If you have not heard the Mel & Mus-produced “Raining Men” then you will probably take it in as a Beyoncé-esque/Bangladesh-esque track, as it sounds like one. From the deep bassline to the overall urban influence, this song sounds hot as hell on a top notch sound system.

Now onto the new and shiny J.R. Rotem-produced “Fly” featuring Rihanna. This song has Top 10 written all over it. Here’s what Minaj had to say about the song:
FLY is one of my absolute faves. I wanted to work with Rihanna for a long time. I’m very proud of her accomplishments ; especially since she was born on an island like me
. This song is a female empowerment song. But then again, its not specific to just women. It speaks about flying, soaring high… in the face of every single solitary adversity that comes your way. I speak about how the media has attempted to box me in and how that has made me feel suffocated. After years of being dragged thru the mud, I’ve mustered up the courage to re-define myself. I believe that I represent an entire generation. My fans have become my family ; and together we have become a movement. Get ready for it.

Well, each song is nice in its own way and whilst both may be very mainstream we see “Fly” making bigger moves on the charts because of its less-urban and more-Pop sound. Also, check out Rihanna’s “What’s My Name” performance on Letterman.
Last year it was all about dark and black with the decent selling and underrated Rated R. One year later, Rihanna is red all over and filled with fun as her fifth studio album, LOUD, in five years is released to music outlets all over the world.
