• Did N*E*R*D Scrap ‘Instant Gratification’ After Rhea Was Dropped?

  Just last night, we reported that N*E*R*D trashed their Instant Gratification album to work on a brand new one. Despite Pharrell claiming the songs weren’t good enough there just had to be a better reason as to why a you get rid of an entire album.

  Well, news broke this past January(missing in action once again) that Rhea was let go from the group:

  Although Rhea performed with N.E.R.D. throughout the year and Pharrell confirmed her as their newest group member in October it seems that Rhea is no longer part of N.E.R.D. According to BOSSIP sources Rhea was kicked out of N.E.R.D. VERY RECENTLY “because they didn’t think her sound matched with N.E.R.D.’s style, which I don’t understand, because she never really did. Her sleeping around was also a problem.” Our source confirmed that while she claims to be in her twenties Rhea is actually 32. [SOURCE]

  When you think of a female addition to N*E*R*D, Santigold or some other hipster like artist came to mind not Rhea so it was almost a question as to why they even bothered. That was January that rumor reported and there has been no follow-up so we will have to wait and see hear. Thanks to IkiHav.

  UPDATE: Pharrell confirmed the new album will be entitled Nothing. He mentions it at the 3:30 mark.

• N.E.R.D. Alert: “Soldier” CDQ + “Get Up” Performance + 4th Member Rhea + New Album Title Revealed

  A few months ago we reported via a reliable news source that N.E.R.D. was to add a female member to the group; taking the route the Black Eyed Peas did back in 2003. Well, Pharrell recently confirmed the news of the new addition to the group as well as the group’s ’3-D’ music:

  “Musically, we’re just somewhere else [with her],” he told MTV News. “The music is now very 3-D. It’s something you have to hear.” “We’re definitely somewhere else,” he continued. “I want to leave that impact moment for when you purchase your download and you purchase your CD. The music is very three-dimensional. We’re just really excited. We feel like NERD has always been the punks of hip-hop and the outcasts of alternative music – just a little different. But this time, we’re taking no prisoners.”

  This is great news! We’re eager to see if a female addition will really help them commercially. The title of their forthcoming album was also revealed. Instant Gratification will be the title of the new album which already has confirmed contributions from Santigold and Timbaland and the confirmed songs “W.T.F.,” “Radio,” and “Soldier.”

  Speaking of “Soldier”, the group has been performing this song for months and there was no sign of the studio version until now. Santigold joins the boys (sans Rhea as well the Lil Wayne verse, for a song that has us just about hyped to the max for their new album. Their last album, Seeing Sounds, explored a sound that was too far left for us. They lost their trademark sound completely. This “Soldier” song displays their rock side… It’s pure FIYAAA!

  Also, N.E.R.D. is currently on The Blueprint³ tour and recently they performed a new song entitled “Get Up.” Rhea has joined the boys on the tour and to our surprise she suits them well. We didn’t know how she would fair but after watching the performance our worries have been set aside for something else. Watch the performance when you view…

• N*E*R*D Adding a Female to the Group?

  Proph who manages to stay on top of everything came across some new information pertaining N*E*R*D flipping the script. Apparently for the trio’s upcoming fourth studio album they are going to add a female to the group. Whilst it’s not 100%, it’s certainly more than 50% positive that Rhea will be joining the group.

  Rapper Fam-Lay tweeted, “Her names Rhea.. She’s the new member of N.E.R.D.!! & she dope!!”. Of course he quickly removed the tweet but the good/bad thing about Twitter is their server is a tad-bit slow and even when you delete a tweet you can still search the person and the tweet will still be there as it takes a day or two to be removed. Warning to be careful what you tweet, esp. if your account is public.

  

  Anyway, back to what we were discussing, Rhea has also revamped her Myspace page with a new picture under the heading “Rhea 2.0 : Be Prepared”. She even performed with the trio at the Lovebox Festival in London recently. Despite a failed start at a solo career, if Rhea joins the group she may be able to do that later down the line a la Fergie with the Black Eyed Peas.

  N*E*R*D has been active for eight years so this is pretty surprising to find out. Also, Rhea is not exactly the first female that comes to mind to join such a group but at first glance Fergie didn’t fit B.E.P. and look what her being added did for their commercial success. This fourth album of theirs will be something to look forward as they performed a new song; “Soldier” featuring Santigold. Timbaland and Lil Wayne are also set to appear on the album.
