It’s been two weeks since the leak of 4 and since then a slew of magazine editorials, pictorials and promo shots have surfaced from the booty bouncer. Currently, Beyoncé is over in France doing a promo tour… pushing ahead with the album despite the less-than-accepting response from the public.
This upcoming weekend Beyoncé will headline Glastonbury along with a string of other promo spots to help promote the under-appreciated 4. We’ve heard everything up until this point from 4, except the deluxe tracks. Listen to Beyonce’s “favorite” songs after… (more…)
It’s that new-new from music legend Prince. The song entitled “Rich Friends” is lifted from the deluxe version of his latest album, 20Ten, which was a freebie in the UK’s Daily Mail, earlier this year. Just like most of Prince’s latest work, the song is neither here nor there. It’s funky and soulful but doesn’t compare to his material in the 80′s.
Prince announced his Welcome 2 America tour last week. No dates have been confirmed but it would be a dream to see the spectacle.
Canadian singer-songwriter, Colin Munroe, has delved into the past and put his hands on a classic. The singer-songwriter put a modern twist on Prince’s 1984 classic, “I Would Die 4 U.” So how does it sound?
Well to start things off, the song is incomparable to the original. It’s not bad at all it’s just the original will always be on its own level of greatness. Munroe’s updated version slows down the tempo just a little and the beat is more punctual with added bass. It’s a cool cover that will get some more spins in one of our countless playlists.

THE ARTIST that has inspired many (see previous post), Prince, has given his first newspaper interview in 10 years. It is part of his deal with the UK’s Daily Mirror to give away his latest album, 20Ten, for free on July 10. Below are some of the excerpts from the article:
His thoughts on Michael Jackson:
“Next Question”
His stance against digital music:
“The internets completely over. I dont see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They wont pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they cant get it. The internets like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that cant be good for you.”
His lifelong love for music:
“Its what I always dreamed of when I was a young musician, playing in the basement. Music is my life. Its my trade. If I cant get it out of my head I cant function. Someone told me they saw me at my peak, but how do they know when my peak is? I think Im improving all the time. When I listen to my old records Im ashamed of how I played then.
Playing electric guitar your whole life does something to you. I’m convinced all that electricity racing through my body made me keep my hair.”
Our appreciation for Prince has grown at an alarming rate this past year. The guy really is extraordinary.
We just wanted to take this post out to congratulate the BET Network for finally finding the right formula to produce an entertaining and well organized award show. Keeping in tradition, the show clocked in a 3+ hour runtime but that was okay because the performances were brilliant with the exception of maybe 1 or 2. Kanye West’s performance was filled with egoism but more importantly, power.
Fast forward to Chris Brown’s Michael Jackson‘s tribute performance and the guy displayed his admiration for Jackson the best way he could, his dance moves. Brown did eventually break down into crying making him unable to get through his cover of “Man On the Mirror.” Many people had negative comments for the young entertainer but it was a great moment; it completely showed how gracious and grateful Chris brown was for the opportunity.
It was also nice to see El Debarge return to the stage; jamming to the old school hits was so nostalgic. Accompanying that greatness was Prince, receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award. With the help of the amazing Janelle Monáe, Esperanza Spalding, Alicia Keys and Patti Labelle to cover some of Prince’s hits and Prince’s so humble yet icon exuding speech, it was 20 minutes of good television.
The night was filled with other great moments: performances, acceptance speeches, deserving award winners. The atmosphere was just drenched in happiness and positivity, good job BET.
Watch as Queen Latifah hosts the 10 year anniversary BET Award Show from the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. Expect to see Chris Brown tribute Michael Jackson, Prince to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award and much more.
Nicolay Music teamed up with ?uestlove about a month ago to record a song for Prince for a party that paid tribute to the iconic artist. Without saying too much; this song is a brilliant tribute. It does anything pertaining to Prince justice and the instrumental captures that funky pop style that is a signature of the artist… This song has put us in full on Prince mode. He really is an extraordinary musical genius. Back flip into this purple greatness!
