Who knew Hip-Hop and Reggae would be “Distant Relatives”?
When you take a respected Hip-Hop/Rap artist like Nas and a legendary Reggae artist, Damian Marley, and combine them with their love for Mother Africa you get their latest collaborative album, Distant Relatives. The two had previously connected musically on Damian’s single “Road to Zion” off of his third album, Welcome to Jamrock, thus later on sparking an amazing relationship between the two outside as well as inside the studio.
The 13 track disc conscious of all things is sure to touch some part of you and have you ‘skankin’ at some point. It brings awareness to Africa on tracks like “Africa Must Wake Up” and “Land of Promise” as well as inspiration in the songs like “Count Your Blessing” and “Strong Will Continue”.
This album is filled with spiritually feel good type of music. It’s a refreshing burst of clean air and clear music that is well worth the listening time.

Produced by Damian “Jr. Gong” MarleyA mid-tempo groove combined with a heavy reggae bass guitar are the underlying components to Damian and Nas’ take on what the promised land would be if it were in Africa. The two imply that Africa would surely be a first-world country had they not been robbed of their people and goods. “Imagine Ghana like California with Sunset Boulevard… Somalia like New York,” Jr. Gong ponders on the track. Nas & Damian Marley have set the date, May 18, for the release of their collaborative effort, Distant Relatives. This album is one of 2010 to look forward to, that is if you enjoy the genres of Reggae and Hip-Hop. From the previews, this is going to get a lot of spins. “Strong Will Continue” leaked the other day and now we have another song from the Distant Relatives project. This new one is entitled “As We Enter.”
WOOOOOOYYYYYYY! This song is hype. Try and listen to this song without moving. We cannot help but get up and give energy for this song. The Mario Winans song was for those who are staying in but for those who are going out about the town, this is for you. This album is certainly an anticipated one for us and we cannot wait to listen to it in its entirety.

Damian Marley & Nas – As We Enter
Ever since the news leaked last year that Damian Marley and Nas would collaborate on a joint album entitled Distant Relatives, of course we were waiting to hear something from the project. This morning the possible first single or album track leaked under the title “Strong Will Continue.”
The song fits the theme of the album which is ancestry and poverty in Africa. You can bet it won’t be corny with Marley being quite aware…:
“We’re trying to have a sound that’s reminiscent of both of us, but not exactly like either,” says Marley, who adds they cut the disc with a live band. Proceeds will go to a project in Africa — possibly building a school in the Congo — and songs like “Count Your Blessings” reflect on the plight of the continent. “A lot of charity albums come off corny,” says Marley. “We want this to be something you’d play in your car.”
We love’s the song’s bass and violins and we are pretty sure, in fact 100% sure that this album WILL be eaten up on radios in The Bahamas and by others alike. Distant Relatives is out April 20, 2010.
