Über soulfoul singer, Melanie Fiona, premiered a cut from her forthcoming sophomore album, The MF Life, due out in the first quarter of 2011. The audience at London’s Luminaire nightclub were in for a treat when she started to sing “Gone & Never Coming Back.”
Fiona stated many months ago that her sophomore album would have a “stadium soul” sound and this song matches that. It’s going to be fun to see how this album develops.
A few days ago the video for Melanie Fiona’s latest single, “Ay Yo,” premiered. The single is lifted from her debut album, The Bridge, which has gathered much critical acclaim but has only managed to sell 250,000 copies in the US.
Fiona looks incredibly gorgeous in the video and puts her talent to the forefront. It’s great that labels still have faith in the talent and not the money because had this been any other artist of less talent in the genre of Pop, the promotion for the album would have been stopped by now. It’s great to see decent videos being put out.
Check out the beautifully talented Melanie Fiona below as she gives a preview of her Walmart Soundcheck.
In 2008 Melanie Fiona had the privilege of touring with Kanye West on his Glow In the Dark tour. About 2 years later she can add another to her list of artists she’s toured with. Beginning this Spring, Melanie Fiona will tour with Alicia Keys on the Freedom Tour. Here’s what Fiona had to say this past Thursday at the Apollo Theater:
“I’ve admired Alicia Keys since before I got into the music industry, just everything she represents as a female artist,” said Fiona, who is gearing up to tour North America with her role model. “I feel like us collaborating on a tour is going to be really strong, really empowering and what a great show, so I’m really excited.” [SOURCE]
Good for her. It is great to see such a deserving, talented and image free artist such as Fiona establishing herself and gaining success through acts of raw talent. To share the stage with Alicia Keys is a great honor and it’s a perfect match. Fans who come to watch and hear Keys perform will most likely be into Fiona’s music.
The beautiful and talented Melanie Fiona saw one of her dreams come true last night when she received her first Grammy nomination (Best Female R&B Vocal Performance) for “It Kills Me.” Here’s how Fiona reacted below:
“I cried the happiest tears of my life when I heard the news,” says Melanie Fiona. “This is something I have dreamed of my entire life. I am a new artist, and to be recognized by the Grammy committee as a nominee in the company of such talented and established artists is my highest honor. I truly feel like the little engine that could.”
CONGRATULATIONS! Her gradual rise to a place near the top is progressing along quite nicely and all we ask of her is that she remains down-to-earth and keep on creating timeless music.
The beautiful and talented Melanie Fiona finally took to the stage for her BET Rising Icons special.
TALENTED! Everything about this lady screams it and she is so classic with its execution. In a day when an artist’s success is measured on how quick they rise to fame, Fiona is a simmering pot of gourmet soup. It will take her some time to get up there but when she does oh how delicious it will be for her and her fans who have been there from the beginning.
Just a day after the premiere of her video “Bang Bang”, the video for Melanie Fiona’s “It Kills Me” premieres.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G and we do not need to be biased to say that either. The whole throwback feel; from the vintage Corvette to the vintage funeral outfit. That whole musical set-up in the road in the middle of the country and the sun beaming from behind adds to the powerful chorus. The use of strong blacks against the sepia tones are also very eye catching. Now let’s talk about the scene when Adam Rodríguez spins the Corvette around to go back to Fiona and almost collides with a Trailer truck when in fact it is Fiona he kills. Wow, a great video. Be sure to pick up The Bridge when it hits US stores on November 3.
