M.I.A. did her esoteric thing back in 2010 with /\/\/\Y/\ but now she’s ready to claim back the mainstream crowd that she won over in the “Paper Planes” days, without altering her style.
Hi, hello, yes it is our first post for the new year. What else can we say…
What better way to start off the year, a month late, than with Madonna. The reigning matriarch of Pop has returned with a new era nearly four years since Hard Candy. The icon will release her twelfth studio album entitled MDNA on March 26. With over a month to go before the release of the album the era is already promising to be a good one.
Artiste SebastiAn is releasing his forthcoming LP, Total, on May 30 via Ed Banger Records. Tracks are leaking a little on the hefty side… the latest to leak from the upcoming release features M.I.A.
The track titled “C.T.F.O. (Chill The F**k Out)” brings over M.I.A. Maya with her industrial vibes and cheerleading shouts. A pretty decent track, listen to it below.
We’ll admit, we weren’t feeling the revolution in sound on M.I.A.’s latest album, /\/\ /\ Y /\, but that all changed when her Vicki Leekx mixtape was released on New Year’s.
The entire mixtape was great but there are two songs we keep going back to. The main one is “Murder Sound VIP” which is a Munchi production. The song is one big pot of sounds and shows off that raw, hype and wild edge we so love from M.I.A.

“Get Around” is the last track on the mixtape and as much as we hate, yes hate to use this word, this track has swag. It’s a perfect midtempo to just bounce to.

Sayonara to M.I.A. for now and hellllo to Vicki Leekx. The visual artist just dropped her New Year’s Eve mixtape, the follow-up to her 2004 mixtape Piracy Funds Terrorism. The mixtape comes in the form of one long 36 minute mp3… this mixtape is soooo hype. We are loving this to death. Go right now and download this mixtape that features productions from Diplo, Danjahandz, Blaqstarr, Rusko, So Japan and more. if you did not enjoy /\/\ /\ Y /\ then you will LOVE this.
Those of you who did not get into M.I.A.’s third studio effort, /\/\ /\ Y/\, still have a chance to get funky with the visual artist. M.I.A. took to her Twitter account to announce a brand new mixtape release on the eve of New Year’s:
vicky leekx mixtape coming new years eve! layin bad minds to rest 2010! [SOURCE]
No details have been released but we’re sure this Vicky Leekx is a contrast to the experimental industry sounds of her latest album.
M.I.A. is at it again with her mysterious viral ploys. This time she purchased a domain with the long title of bedroomtothehallwaytotheroadtotheworld.com. The site displays a full screen video of M.I.A. concert footage. The song which sounds similar to “Illygirl” packs the bass and sounds a lot like her earlier material, no complaints. Listen to “Do This, Do That” below.

With all the music giveaways from Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy seemed like it would not pack any surprises.
This past Wednesday (October 6), West appeared live at London’s BAFTA screening room, after the showing of his 40-minute music-film to answer questions about his forthcoming album. He revealed that the features on the album will include John Legend, La Roux’s Elly Jackson, M.I.A., Mos Def, Bon Iver, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, No I.D. and KiD CuDi.
Bon Iver’s vocals will be on nine of the tracks and Alicia Keys will contribute vocals to “Lost In the World.”
In other Kanye related news, his 5 song opus with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne, is receiving the finishing touches for a November 23 release. The second single will be released in the upcoming weeks along with a video for “Monster,” which is currently in the works. Oh, if you were wondering about Nicki Minaj’s amazing verse in “Monster”, West revealed he worked with Minaj over a 4 day period to nail it.
Okay, so when Rye Rye’s debut single, “Sunshine,” featuring M.I.A. leaked the other day we almost ignored it simply because it was not her usual hi-energy banger. After watching the video this morning, the song has us hooked.
The video in which M.I.A. is fully present, displays Rye Rye in 100% pride mode as she puts the Baltimore scene on display. The video which keeps the summer spirit alive is edited with a golden tint along with 80′s era style clips thrown in. Rye Rye’s debut, Go! Pop! Bang! will be in stores on January 11.
/\/\ /\ Y /\ just hit music outlets this past July but unreleased music from the very political M.I.A. is surfacing. Some weeks ago an unreleased song showed up on its own web domain, 4thepeopleontheboat. The song was an old collab between M.I.A. and Diplo. This time the domain is ithinkyoumightgetshitforthat and the collaborator is Blaqstarr. The song has no official title but the best one would be “Lemme Hump You.”
The last two songs are def. the M.I.A. before her sonic evolution. Funky beats, rhythm and bass is very familiar and we’re keeping this on repeat.
