Fashion week is here in The Bahamas. This marks the second annual Islands of the World Fashion Week and luckily for us S is attending and will be reporting on all the shows she attends…
*Vell sashay shon-tay* Islands of the World Fashion week is here once again. The three day expose’ of emerging Caribbean designers ripped the runway at the Nassau Beach, Sheraton Hotel. The first evening kicked off with the finale of “The Muse” model search competition where winners Giovara Geertriuda of Curacaoand and Kendrick of The Bahamas were selected as the winners. Next, we strutted over to the NextGen category with designers like Phylicia Ellis (The Bahamas), Sabrina Sturrup (The Bahamas), Kevin Evans (The Bahamas) and Darcel de Vlugt (Trinidad), all of which participated in an Eco-Fashion and Cultural fashion designs presentation where their designs of natural fabrics were showcased. There was also a showing by Guest Designer Leanne Marshall. *hmmph sounds familiar right?* Marshall was actually the 2008 winner of the hit tv show Project Runway.
Okay, back to the fashion. Some of the favorites of the night were male designer Kevin Evans whose sleek line of militant inspired attire made you want to go “ATTENT HU-ddle into the nearest car to get you some” and also Leanne Marshall who’s work said “It’s not hip to be a square so be a triangle.” Her simple cut designs were jazzed up with unique triangle pieces to give the clothing a 3 dimensional look. And last but my favorite so far… Darcel de Vlugt of Trinidad. Her Alice in Wonderland inspired line with twisted head pieces and cutesy bubble dresses offset with daring designs and rich silky colors were incredible.
The evening ended with an after party at the lovely Marley Resort. Keep checking back as fashion week continues. View the gallery after…
