• Drake ♂ vs. JoJo ♀ : “Marvin’s Room”

  Drake turned the burner on his sophomore album era when he announced Take Care‘s release on Oct. 24. Along, with the announcement he dropped “another piece of the story” in the form of the Noah “40″ Shebib-produced “Marvin’s Room.” We love Drake’s R&B material and the song has been on repeat since its release.

  Fast forward to today and JoJo is reiterating a Drake tune once again. Back in 2009, JoJo did her best “Houstatlantavegas” cover from the So Far Gone mixtape and now she releases “Marvin’s Room (Can’t Do Better),” courtesy of Rap-Up. A much more mature JoJo is put on display, both lyrically and production-wise.

  Now which is better, Drake’s or JoJo’s? It all really comes down to opinion. The gulping bass of Drake’s is toned down in JoJo’s version and well… we like Drake’s better. You decide for yourself, listen below.

• New Single: JoJo Sings About Being “The Other Chick”

  We’ve been waiting a bit but JoJo’s lead single, from her forthcoming studio album, but it is now here. The latest tune is titled “The Other Chick.”

  “Oh yup/ by the way/ I faked it everytime.” Ok, JoJo speakin’ about that sex, now that she’s all “grown.” The single, like with most other JoJo tunes, is nice but this is not the one for the top of the charts. With that exception, this song is pretty much a catchy one for various personal playlists. JoJo’s voice is great and with her “flavuh” you’re pretty much guaranteed a great song from her.

• JoJo Changes Album Title To “Jumping Trains”

  Jojo announced that her third studio album, previously titled,  ”All I Want is Everything” has been changed to “Jumping Trains”.  The 20-year-old singer revealed plans in a recent Youtube message, to shoot the video for her first single off of the album very soon (whenever that may be.)  For all you #TEAMJOJO out there it looks like the wait continues…..

• Video Premiere: JoJo “In The Dark”

  After the release of her mixtape, Can’t Take That Away From Me, two days ago we now receive the visuals for the “In The Dark.” Shot in the first quarter of this year, the Nicole Ehrlich and Clarence Fuller-directed clip focuses on minimalism. The moody and sensual/sexual nature of the song is captured neatly with the use of skin exposure and desaturated tint.

• JoJo Drops ‘Can’t Take That Away From Me’ Mixtape

  After a few hellish obstacles, singer/songwriter JoJo releases her “experimental” mixtape via Rap-Up.com today. The 11 track project features productions from Jordan Gatsby, Chad Hugo (The Neptunes), Kenna, Neff-U, Oak, and Beau Dozier.

  After listening through the entire mixtape, JoJo’s “experimental” approach is her showing maturity and growth away from the mainstream norm rather than total left-field quirky material. If you’re a fan of the mixtape then you better take it all in now, while you can, because JoJo makes it clear that her third studio album will be a lot more radio-friendly.

  Can’t Take That Away From Me is a praiseworthy piece of work and we love it to death because we can keep it on repeat like a catchy tune all whilst listening to solid music with depth.

• JoJo Detonates With Official Music Comeback: “In The Dark”

  Nineteen year-old singer/songwriter JoJo (WOW, she’s still that young) had all sorts of drama including music leaks and label issues since the release of her sophomore album, The High Road, four years ago. Well all that mess has somewhat vanished as she exclusively teamed up with Rap-Up.com to premiere her new music.

  Firstly, JoJo is releasing a mixtape under the title Can’t Take That Away From Me before her third studio album. The first song from the mixtape was unveiled on Rap-Up this morning. The song is titled “In The Dark.” JoJo explains her musical experimentation with the popular site:

  “I think ‘In the Dark’ is different than anything people have heard from me before,” JoJo says of the song, which was produced by Jordan Gatsby and co-written by JoJo and Gatsby. “It’s a very sensual record and there’s an undertone of sadness to it.” [SOURCE]

  Whilst being experimental it is also stated that the song will not reflect the material of her third studio album. Well they may want to reconsider because this is the most grown and one of the best sounding songs to come from JoJo… Wow, just listen to the song below because the vibe is so sensual and that bass is bananas. • JoJo Will Let Them Know How You Did It

  After all the legal drama it was recently reported that JoJo’s upcoming album, All I Want Is Everything, will be distributed under a joint deal between her label Blackground Records and Interscope. With the addition of that news comes more leaked tracks from the singer. There’s no telling if all these songs are from the album or what, but most likely they are. Here’s another great Pop/R&B song from her entitled “How You Did It” and produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.

  In typical JoJo fashion the music is about a rocky relationship. She fell for a boy who turned  out to be unfaithful towards to her and now she’s going to expose him. Normally, we criticize artists for doing the same thing over and over but with JoJo it never gets old and she always does it with great hooks and melodies. We’re looking forward to her album which has an estimated release date of early 2010.

• JoJo Keeps Forgetting

  Why o why is JoJo not getting the proper treatment. We mean every song she’s leaked within the short past has been radio-worthy and today is no different. This new song is entitled “Keep Forgetting (To Forget About You)”.

  The song starts off with JoJo calmy singing with her vocals picking up as she progresses into the chorus. The content is typical of her; a relationship but the combination of great vocals and a great beat is her formula so why knock her. It’s just a shame now because if she ever does release her album we’ll probably have heard all the material.

• 8 of R&B’s Finest Come Together For LeBron James Movie

  We use the term “finest” loosely as it does not pertain to all of the singers featured on this track. Toni Braxton, Jordin Sparks, Tyrese, JoJo, Omarion, Faith Evans, Tank & Charlie Wilson have all come together for an inspirational song for More Than a Game, the movie which stars NBA superstar LeBron James.

  Perfect, this song is perfect for the movie and has anyone else noticed the soundtrack for this movie is turning out to feature all the heavy-hitters. What we like the most about this song is it’s so nostalgic; you don’t hear music like this anymore. It’s very much that 90′s R&B sound; it’s a song that would have fit perfectly on Michael Jordan’s Space Jam. More Than a Game hits theaters October 2, 2008.

  With all the drama going on with JoJo and her record label new material still manages to leak from the talented cutie. This new one is entitled “Wrong Man For the Job” and is produced by The Jam.

  When it comes to commercial music with a little spice JoJo scores a bullseye. This mid-tempo jam is very friendly towards the radio but it isn’t so generic like it’s desperate to fit in. The song packs a punch and the energy behind the instrumental and her vocals make it seem like it could be some sort of anthem for a young lady or…

  As for her situation with her record label it seems like such a dead end. We understand that there are some business technicalities we need to learn but when a label won’t allow their artist to release a new record yet it won’t release the artist from his/her contract something is wrong there. What is the reason the label is holding on to her when it seems they have no interest in her?
