*Checks MGMT off the list* Okay, so MGMT’s sophomore album, Congratulations, is one we are really looking forward to and today the duo served us all with a free download of a single song entitled “Flash Delirium.” We were already made aware that this album would be on the other side of the fence of what Oracular Spectacular was.

This song is definitely no “Electric Feel” or “Kids”; the singles that made them the huge crossover success they are. The song is a bit closer in sound to “The Handshake,” though. All sorts of uniformity is lost in the song with a flute sound here, a whisper there, and other pounding sounds everywhere.

By the sound of this new MGMT song they want to eradicate all traces of them ever having mainstream success. Of course this will cause direct some fans away and regain some new and even original ones.

Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis Travie McCoy has gone solo for the time being with a new single, “Billionaire,” featuring Bruno Mars. The single is from McCoy’s solo debut, Lazarus, which will hit music outlets on June 8, 2010.

Mars did a great job on the hook for B.o.B.’s “Nothin’ On You” but he absolutely claimed this song. With the combination of the organic/tropical live instrumentation and Mars’ vocals he gives off a slight, dare we say it, Jason Mraz flow. Alright, don’t slaughter us for saying that because we mean it in the nicest way. This song has McCoy written all over it and this is such a great song and we  now look forward to his album.

We just spotted a sneak peek of Kelis’ album photoshoot over at Toya’s World. The image was shot by Rankin, who along with Chris Cottam shot the music video for the first single, the David Guetta produced “Acapella.” Seems that this portion of the photoshoot was shot with black lighting which gives all the neon/glow-in-the-dark effects.

Initially, we were feeling “Acapella” but every step after the single’s release has us feeling less and less excited about this new album of Kelis. It definitely feels now that this album is focused on one type of audience and that’s the house/dance/electro rave goers. I guess we will have to see if our opinions change once more music drops from the album.

Goodness gracious mayne! Just when we thought we would be blasted with lots of color and culture with Alicia Keys’ “Put It In a Love Song” video today, it suffers the dreaded pushback. BUT get this, it’s not like GaGa’s “Telephone”  video which kept receiving multiple short day delays, this video is being pushed back a whole month to mid-April. What kinda…

To be honest, this is probably some managerial decision to not flood the media all at once with Beyoncé but to rather spread her out over the next few months. Fans will probably watch the hell out of “Telephone” by mid-April and will  then have a refreshing view of the bouncin’ hip gal.

“So many people say, ‘So, what, are you a party girl?’ And I say, ‘I’m a walking good time.’ Do I sometimes go out and drink? Hell, yes. But could I have a number one song if I wasn’t also working hard? Maybe that needs a little more respect. Also, the phrase ‘party girl’ implies someone who is out at a club, maybe doing some guy in the back who you’ve just met. Then you get in your car and you flash your vagina at the paparazzi. And I’m none of the above.”

“I have been working on realizing this dream, my path, my mission, for years. I’ve really invested a lot of thought, time and effort into it. The last thing that makes me is a victim. I think it’s a bummer when people don’t represent that properly, when they portray me as purely one-dimensional.”

Maybe we need to consider putting Ke$ha and longevity into the same sentence now. Before this statement we just got the impression she was an “in the moment” sort of person; she seemed like the type to make no provisions for the future. So we get it, Ke$ha delivers a party image but behind it is a working machine who knows just what is what.

We do not know about you all but T.I.’s stint in prison went by quicker than we thought it would have. Well, yup, ya boy has returned to the Hip-Hop scene with a new track entitled “I’m Back” produced by the Trackslayerz.

T.I. is showing us all that he went to prison as he wears his tough exterior from head to toe. The street single is a taste  of what’s to come from the rapper’s forthcoming seventh studio album. This is good ol’ fashioned T.I., so plug your ears with this.

UK X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke unfortunately has not seen the amount of success expected from her label. Not to worry because she’s heading across the pond to the US where she signed a five album record deal with Epic. For the release of Overcome in the US the label recruited Pitbull for a remix of “All Night Long.”

Not bad, not bad at all. “All Night Long” is the best uptempo track on the album (personal opinion) and it’s a cool thought to know that she’s throwing it out to see if US audiences will eat it up. All she ca do is work hard and pray that her career takes off properly.

For the past few weeks people have been on edge awaiting Lady GaGa’s “epic” “Telephone” video featuring Beyoncé. The last release date to be mentioned was March 8 but then the dreaded push back came along. But all is well as the official release date has been announced:

Another video with just a little less momentum riding behind is the premiere of Alicia Keys’ “Put It In a Love Song” which also features Beyoncé:

So until another pushback is announced, June 22, 2010 it is. A’right, this is an album to look forward to because Press Play was sizzlin’ and from what we’ve heard thus far, we’re intrigued.

UPDATE: Diddy also spoke to MTV about the features on the album:

On Last Train To Paris, Wayne is on the album, Drake is on the album, we’re trying to get Hov [Jay-Z] on the album, trying to get Janelle Monae on the album.

“Everybody that’s on the album, it’s not done in a regular appearance way. It’s done in a unique way that’s authentic. It’s not about a single or album sales. It doesn’t have that behind it.”

He added: “Wayne is on a record that’s called ‘Strobe Lights’. It’s one of the first records where I hear him talking about love and how love has affected him. That’s the type of things I wanted to get out of people if they were on the album.

“I wanted people to get out of their comfort zone and do something that was special. He did the video for me over the weekend. ‘Strobe Lights‘, it’s gonna be tough.” [SOURCE]

Drake, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Janelle Monae, etc… seems like it is about album sales and singles with the exception of Monae. We expect an album for the clubs so we won’t go about this in a pretentious way.

Taylah and Kelci a.k.a. Vistoso Bosses just premiered their first single entitled “Tatted” featuring Waka Flocka. There is no news on their upcoming first album but they are releasing a mixtape on March 15: The World Would Suck Without Girls.

It’s an alright jam but ever since “Delirious” hit the net back in early ‘09 it seems nothing they’ve released after comes close to it. That song just had a unique and catchy flavor. This new single sounds like it’s conforming to what’s supposed to be on the radio. The girls can come better and it seems that Waka Flocka is about to follow Gucci Mane’s explosion and flood all the urban songs.

Like Drake’s first single, it seems as though Christina Aguilera’s first single from her forthcoming album, Bionic, will never see the light of day. For the past two months readers have been under the impression that the first single is to be the Tricky and The-Dream produced “Glam” but not according to musician Sia. Here’s what she told Papermag in her interview:

She’s a mad scientist of vocalization. She totally scrambled my mind. She’s total perfection – a really nice person, not controlling in any way, really open, a really great collaborator, and easy to work with. I’m a really big fan of her dogs, and her kid and her husband — they’re adorable. It’s real. Their relationship is so beautiful and real. They’re like a model couple — they love each other so much and are so kind to each other all the time. Jordy’s a dreamboat. I wrote the ballads with her. She’s doing a lot of up-tempo stuff with other people like MIA and Santigold. And the first single, “Bionic” is so crazy and so amazing. [SOURCE]

So which is it: “Glam” or “Bionic”? Maybe Sia knows more than we would expect her to know or maybe she just confused the single’s and album’s titles. We’re fighting off the anticipation as best as we can because what we need most is another mainstream let down.

A pre-recorded interview and double performance of Lady GaGa on Jonathan Ross aired in the UK earlier tonight. This time around there was actually some chemistry between GaGa and Ross and it wasn’t all awkward and cringe worthy moments. GaGa was her usual shy self who glazes it over with a some pretentious behavior. It was an interesting 20 minutes of the two talking; it left us smiling to ourselves.

GaGa took to the stage not once but twice to perform “Brown Eyes” and a solo “Telephone.” It was a show as we expected; it amazes us that GaGa puts IT in even for a late night show appearance.

Rumors have been making its rounds that The Monster Ball will be recorded for DVD and maybe Blu-ray in 3D. Now that’s something we would consider paying a bit of money for.

The opinionated and mouthy Solange Knowles posted a new song on her Damn blog a bit earlier today. The post comes with a disclaimer that “Under Construction” will not be on Solange’s forthcoming album.

Despite Solange needing a few spanks on her mouth for being rude, we cannot deny that she is in a lane of her own making wonderful music. She is such a combustion of most things not mainstream: an alternative soul as we like to call her. Listen to the smooth caramel below.

Alicia Keys who is now on tour stopped by Oprah to chat it up with the talk show legend. Our prime reason for tuning in to the episode was to see a preview of the “Put It In a Love Song” video. That did not happen but high quality behind-the-scenes clips were shown.

Keys also spoke on the 3 artists she would love to collaborate with: Kings of Leon, M.I.A. and Prince. Those are 3 impressive music acts and artists that could have potential for some GREAT music. Keys also performed a stripped down version of “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

In other news, it has been confirmed that Alicia Keys’ 4th single from The Element of Freedom will be “Unthinkable (I’m Ready)” feat. Drake.

The video starts off with empty streets of an urban setting. As the song kicks in gear, so does the song as everything turns into sheer anarchy. The video is very much on the dark side and you know what, we like it.

Chicago Hip-Hop duo, Kidz In the Hall, is readying the release of their third studio album, Land of Make Believe. They’ve released some singles from the upcoming project already but a new leak (a new single) has been pushed to the forefront. The new track is “Take Over the World” and features Just Blaze and Colin Munroe.

Don’t you just love the Hip-Hop tracks with a catchy hook, of course you do. Colin Munroe sets the mood of the song from the start and the rest of the feel-good flow follows. We’re going to have to check out their new album now because they have some serious skills. Only problem is, the track seems to be snipped before it finishes.

More music from Gorillaz’ Plastic Beach has surfaced. Since the album is out there, the bonus tracks follow the lead. This new leak is a Japanese bonus track entitled “Pirate’s Progress.”

Sound familiar, well that’s because it’s an extended version of the album’s intro. This is a beautiful piece; the live string instruments sound like heaven. If you’re into classical music then do yourself a favor and listen to this.

Kat DeLuna, y’know the cute one with the pudgy face and fiery persona, has had NO luck with the release of her sophomore album, Inside Out. Kat and her label are still pushing (no pun intended) for an album release later on in 2010. Well the latest single from the project, “Push Push,” featuring Akon and produced by RedOne is here in its mastered form.

We give up, we can’t resist, we’re addicted to this RedOne number. To us, it’s much better than the Lil Wayne collaboration and it’s a sound that complements her. Realistically speaking, the peak of Kat’s career was “Whine Up.” Not knocking her down in any way but c’mon…

So much for Friday because after the hype and wait Drake’s first single from Thank Me Later is here. The first single, “Over,” is produced by Boi-1da.

Is this a street single or a radio single because this is not IT. It will make a great album cut though. Drake has pretty much became a heavy hittin’ mainstream artist and we thought the works would be brought out for him. Maybe it’s a build up but we’re so sick of buying into the hype and being let down.

We will however give it to Drake for the lyrics in this song. He’s basically stating his time has not even begun, he has plenty more time for shine and success. Alright, he got us there but yea, we want more epic vibes.
