Enrique & Akon Take It “One Day At a Time”

enrique akon

While we’re still in the mood for some feel good music and throw all our cares away we’ll post this new Enrique Iglesias and Akon song entitled “One Day At a Time.” The track appears on Iglesias’ latest studio album, Euphoria, out TODAY. The album really has to be one of his worst, EVER, well at least all the English songs.

“One Day At a Time” is not too bad and after a second listen you really get into the song. As generic as Akon has become you just cannot deny his melodies; he’s still the King of melodies out of the crop you hear in the TOP 40. We’ll be over this song in say, another few hours but whilst we’re still into it, JAM ON!

Big Boi & Janelle Monáe Collaborate Once Again, This Time On “Be Still”

janelle big boi

We’re still in foot motion from Janelle Monáe energetic tribute to Prince from the BET Awards this past Sunday. The motion runs on as she is featured on track number 10 of Big Boi’s Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty which you can preview in full HERE. We’ve been waiting on this album for a long while and now that it’s here we are impressed. Three quarters of the album we can jam to over and over.

“Be Still” is a smooth midtempo which kicks off with Monáe’s honey vocals and some Price-esque basic beats. Monáe’s hook is sung in a whimsical fashion before handing it over to Big Boi to unleash that ever so stylish n’ hard hitting flow. There are many highlights on the album but it’s more than a pleasure to hear these stylish two together on the same track.

Kylie Minogue – ‘Aphrodite’: Love, Beauty, Sexuality & A Kick Ass Album

Kylie+Minogue+APHRODITE

kylie aphroditeWe always knew the song “Locomotion” but did not know the pop star Kylie Minogue until she gained US success during the Fever era. The interest cooled down during the Body Language phase then the hype resurfaced with her tenth album, simply titled X. Whilst the album had some major highs it was inconsistent and didn’t reach Fever’s heights. Fast forward three years and her brand new single “All the Lovers” with the over-the-top Aphrodite theme hit the net. Without a second thought Minogue had the interest back to a Fever standard.

Yesterday, the album leaked. The megamix and album snippets left an air of AMAZING throughout. A big obstacle with previews is they either surpass the full album or fail to show off just how great it is. In Aphrodite’s case, it’s the latter. From beginning to end the album is pure MAGIC. Minogue and her team literally knocked each track out of the park. Well there may be a track or two that do not deserve two thumbs up but it really does not affect the listening experience. With such gems as “Too Much,” “All the Lovers,” “Illusion,” “Aphrodite” and basically the rest of the album, Kylie Minogue has released what will probably one of the top Pop albums of 2010.

The-Dream Lets Out His Inner Prince In “Yamaha” ‘Love King’ Leak

The-Dream yamaha

On this great Sunday, Fathers’ Day, the Deluxe Version of The-Dream’s Love King leaked a short while ago. After listening through the entire album, it’s a very solid effort, a very good album as a mater of fact. After the release of Love King, the single, we had doubts but the album turned out for the better. Our only complaint is that one of the tracks we were dying to hear from that behind-the-scenes VEVO video is not present.

Track #6, “Yamaha,” sees The-Dream revisit his undiluted Prince influences. “Fast Car”[LISTEN HERE] was his direct Prince ode on his first album and he’s back using a motor vehicle as a metaphor once again. Those synths, those trippy uptempo knocks, the 80′s influence… LOVE THIS DAMN SONG!

Damian Marley & Nas ‘Distant Relatives’

nas-damian-6

Who knew Hip-Hop and Reggae would be “Distant Relatives”?

distant relativesWhen you take a respected Hip-Hop/Rap artist like Nas and a legendary Reggae artist, Damian Marley, and combine them with their love for Mother Africa you get their latest collaborative album, Distant Relatives. The two had previously connected musically on Damian’s single “Road to Zion” off of his third album, Welcome to Jamrock, thus later on sparking an amazing relationship between the two outside as well as inside the studio.

The 13 track disc conscious of all things is sure to touch some part of you and have you ‘skankin’ at some point. It brings awareness to Africa on tracks like “Africa Must Wake Up” and “Land of Promise” as well as inspiration in the songs like “Count Your Blessing” and “Strong Will Continue”.

This album is filled with spiritually feel good type of music. It’s a refreshing burst of clean air and clear music that is well worth the listening time.

Christina Aguilera’s ‘Bionic’ Snippets Leak

Amazon UK has unleashed the snippets from the Explicit Deluxe Edition of Christina Aguilera’s fourth studio album, Bionic. Now let us just give you a rundown of how our schizophrenic love/hate relationship for Bionic has progressed:

1. “Not Myself Tonight” leaked, had the song on repeat then quickly grew tired of it after the hype.
2. “Not Myself Tonight” video premiered, regained the love for the song but that love too quickly faded.
3. “WooHoo” feat. Nicki Minaj leaked making us feel she was a sellout but it later grew on us.
4. Snippets of three songs leaked and we were underwhelmed…
5. The full “Bionic” track leaked the other day and as much as we resisted the dated Santigold sounding track, it is still on repeat.
6 Then this morning, all the snippets leaked and after listening to what the album will sound like as a whole, WE WANT BI~ON~IC, WE WANT BI~ON~IC!

This situation proves Aguilera is quite the opposite of most of today’s female artists in the way that she is not much of a single’s artist but her albums are pretty damn great. We just hope these snippets can do the full album justice because they may sound good but 30 seconds can be misleading.

Get to Know: Sleigh Bells

Sleigh+Bells+sleighbells1

sleigh bellsYou know every once in awhile you come across a musical act that just pulls you in from the second you hear the music, well Sleigh Bells is just that. Signed to M.I.A.’s N.E.E.T. Recordings, the pop noise duo made up of Alexis Krauss (vocals) and Derek E. Miller (songwriter/producer) have been making music for a good while in separate projects but their unity couldn’t have come at a better time.

Their debut album, Treats, first started leaking material around the fall of last year and were instantly taken notice with their lo-fi distorted and extremely LOUD sound. You would think that such brash sounds would become painful after two or three of the same type tracks but it’s quite the opposite. In all 11 tracks on the album, not once does the sound become tired or worn out. A helping factor to that probably has to do with the majority of the songs averaging a time of 2 minutes.

The lead single, “Tell ‘Em,” sounds like something straight out of M.I.A.’s back catalogue which is what gripped us and allowed us to listen to the entire debut. Other tracks such as “Infinity Guitar” and “A/B Machines” keep up the adrenaline and will have you going insane, in the best way of course. The contrast between Miller’s productions and Krauss’ delicate vocals are like yin and yang; they’re so opposite but when together they can move mountains. The album is out NOW!

Janelle Monáe, “The ArchAndroid”

janelle monae

archandroidShe epitomizes the level of weird that GaGa only wishes to attain and she’s more classic than Amy Winehouse at her best (minus the side the crack of course). She’s just Janelle. She brings an encouraging amount of energy with loads of creativity to spare with this album. She’s the most interesting blend of rock, soul and electrofunk all rolled into one.

The album, “The ArchAndroid” which was produced by Nate Wonder, Chuck Lightning, Sean “Diddy” Combs and herself was also co-exec produced by Big Boi of Outkast who is also featured on her single “Tightrope”. The 18 track album does not disappoint with its funky tracks like “Faster”, “Dance or Die” and “Wondaland” that are sure to have you possessed with the power of the spirit fingers.

Monáe showcases her awesome vocals with the ability to smudge genre barriers and go from rocking tracks like “Come Alive (War of the Roses)” to smooth smokey soulful tracks like “Oh, Maker,” “BaBopBye Ya” and “Sir Greendown”.

We’re excited as hell to hear more from Monáe so bottom line, a fantastic collection of music, two thumbs up.

Travie McCoy Says “We’ll Be Alright”

Travie+McCoy

Travie McCoy takes us back to the mid 90′s as he samples Supergrass’ “Alright” for a new song entitled “We’ll Be Alright,” set to appear on his Lazarus album.

It’s hilarious that he sampled this song because it was very catchy back then and seemed like such a Cali/Valley type of song which seems opposite of McCoy, at times. It also seems that McCoy is going in a fun and upbeat direction for the album which is always a good sign. It’s the summer and who wants to listen to an album full of melancholy vibes. “We are young, we run free and we listen, to Travie,” woohoo, y’all better listen to this song.

Early Bird Review: Robyn’s ‘Body Talk Pt. 1′

Robyn_Bodytalk_1

It’s been 5 years since the original release of Robyn. Half a decade since a new Robyn album and you can bet that fans were shaking with excitement when “Dancehall Queen” prematurely leaked under the title of “No Hassle.” A month after that the flood came.

Robyn announced her plan to release 3 albums in one year, starting off with Body Talk Pt. 1. Her reason behind the three separate albums was so she could freshly release the music as it was created instead of making the fans wait for a single from an album that is almost a year or two old. So now that listeners knew the title and concept behind the albums and it was time for the music.

Robyn body talk“Dancehall Queen” had already been heard and the next song to slap our ears was the electro “Fembot.” The heavy bassline, grinding synths and static sounds sounds like something that came right off the track list of Robyn. The next song to be previewed was the urban-electro, Röyksopp produced “None of Dem” but unfortunately it did not make the track list of B.T. Pt. 1. The dark vibe and DEEP bassline instantly put a few listeners in a daze.

The standout track on the album, the one which leads the pack as first single is the disc-electro “Dancing On My Own.” Everyone really was under the impression that it was another Kleerup produced song due to its resemblance to Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat.” Patrik Berger was actually the mind behind the song.

There were 3 songs left to hear; one more uptempo dance number in the form of “Cry When You Get Older” and then finishing off with the beautiful ballad, “Hang With Me,” and a cover of the Swedish folk song, “Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa.” The album could have done without that cover…

Body Talk Pt.1 is a brilliant piece of work from Robyn. With each new musical project from Robyn she displays growth and proves she is an artist. Also, what you will discover about Body Talk Pt. 1 is Robyn is continuing what made her last album so great. The music is very much what we heard on Robyn 5 years ago but it’s executed in a way that is natural and not forced to try to hold onto some success. C.S. approves Body Talk Pt. 1. Listen to the Chew Fu Extended Mix of “Dancing Own My Own” after…
