Another month, another fine issue from the STYLEZINE team. With summer and its heat being ever-present, the team over at STYLEZINE have come up with The Bay. The Bay is another take on a swimsuit issue… We briefly attended the mixer (1, 2) this past Saturday where we saw a little of what the issue had to offer. Well now we all can view it in full HERE. Spring is here and the latest issue of STYLEZINE magazine is circulating through the network like wildfire. This issue’s cover feature is Kristina McNeil, Cable 12 News Anchor. This issue dubbed, The Girl Next Door, is the magazine’s largest yet. Returning features such as “Kicks,” “La Femme” and more are back to prep us all for what’s going on in Summer of 2011.

Other features such as “Ode To a B.I.T.C.H.” by Sannie focuses on the age old discrimination between the sexes. Then there’s “The Joys of Sex” speaking on the idea of a threesome.

Hype machine and contemporary Pop mega-star, Lady GaGa, is about to take us on a hype ride this weekend, of hopeful good music, as the release of her “Born This Way” single is to premiere tomorrow at 6am EST via radio, followed by a digital release at 9am EST (The new single will be performed this Sunday at the Grammy’s). Along with with this, her brand new spread in the new “Power Issue” of Vogue has been released.

Attached to the aesthetically appealing cover and photoshoot is a lengthy editorial in which GaGa speaks about fatigue, her infinite hunger for success, her confidence, love for music and more, READ HERE.

In the editorial, Lady GaGa unloads a whole new heap of information on the Born This Way album. The second single will be entitled “Judas,” in which “The melody sounds like it was written for the Ronettes, but it is set to a sledgehammering dance beat and is about falling in love with backstabbing men of the biblical variety.”

Another song on the album is “Americano,” described by GaGa as “a big mariachi techno-house record, where I am singing about immigration law and gay marriage and all sorts of things that have to do with disenfranchised communities in America.“

The Lady also confirmed that the album will be 17 tracks deep, confirming the titles of three other tracks: “Hair“, “Bad Kids” and “Government Hooker.”

As far as describing the level she’s taken it to for this album and direction, GaGa states, ““It is much more vocally up to par with what I’ve always been capable of. It’s more electronic, but I have married a very theatrical vocal to it. It’s like a giant musical-opus theater piece… there are some very rock-’n’-roll moments on the album, too: There’s a Bruce Springsteen vibe, there’s a Guns N’ Roses moment. It’s the anthemic nature of the melodies and the choruses.“

But let’s bring it back to the current song with the spotlight placed above, “Born this Way.” The folks over at Vogue are describing it as an “unbelievably great dance song, destined to be the anthem of every gay-pride event for the next 100 years.“

Bahamian lifestyle magazine with a high-end gloss, Stylezine, released their “Love/Hate” the other day with cover guy, DJ Chronic. The DJ sits down with Nik Barnes for an in-depth look into his background, his journey into music and what’s to come in the future. If there’s one magazine that gives Kanye West his shine, it’s Complex. It’s an awesome magazine that produces some of the best editorials and pictorials of the eccentric artist. The latest issue featuring West pulls in a handful of people who worked with him on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy to share their experiences:

Nicki Minaj On Working With West:

“I heard through Drake that Kanye wanted me on his album, and I got on the next thing smokin’ to Hawaii. I didn’t think that he was gonna like me. I always figured that he was one of those conscious rappers, so I thought that he wouldn’t want girls to be dressed overtly sexy—and I go to the studio and he has nothing but pictures of naked women on his computer that he’d invite me to look at. They were really artsy pictures, but you know he loves nudity, so it was a complete shock to me, ’cause I thought I had him all figured out, but I didn’t. He was watching porn when we were in the studio—no shame in his game. Kanye kept askin’ me to come and eat breakfast, but I like to record in the morning. So, when they were eating breakfast, I was in the studio listening to music and writing. And he would always be like, ‘Yo, why you ain’t never come over for breakfast, yo?’ But I never went. I would get to the studio at like 10:30 in the morning and he’d be leaving to go home and eat breakfast and I’d be getting to the studio to just write and record. I stayed late sometimes, but I was always getting sleepy. I get up at 6 in the morning, so midnight is late for me. One time he caught me nodding off, and I thought maybe he would kick me out. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life. You know how you’re sitting up and you don’t realize that you’ve just fallen asleep, but it feels like an eternity? When I picked up my head from sleeping, he was looking at me in the strangest way I’ve ever been looked at by a human being. He pulled his shades down and he looked and said, ‘;Oh, she’s sleeping?’ I wanted to crawl under a rock and die.” [SOURCE]

How Kanye Works With Others:

“Kanye’s process is communal” he literally goes around the room asking everyone there what ‘Power’ means to them, throws out lines to see how they’re received, and works out his exact wording with whomever is around to help. But his output is most definitely entirely his own. One listen to that consistently unique cadence, word choice, and sense of humor reveals that. Rappers, producers, and entourage are all welcome to offer ideas or phrases, but the funny thing is, nearly every suggestion is met with, “That’s really not at all a word I would ever say, but don’t stop offering ideas, thanks!”

KiD CuDi On Being The Opposite of Athletic:

“Kanye always asked me to play basketball, and I’m not athletic at all. What was I going to be, scorekeeper? So I would sleep in until they got done playing. I always had jet lag out there while other people were in the Hawaii groove already, but it worked out, because by the time they were done hooping, I was refreshed and ready to go. I dodged any sport they were trying to play, that’s for certain. [Laughs.]“

Naomi Campbell, for the first time in 25 years of modeling covers Interview magazine. Campbell discusses her life: the past and present as only she can. Read two of the more outstanding quotes from her feature:

“I mean, look, I’m controversial. It’s not that people don’t know who I am . . . If people want to work with me, then they want to work with me. If they don’t, they don’t. You also have to create your own things. I’ve had my own perfume now for how many years? I’m doing my twelfth perfume and I’m with Procter & Gamble. If something doesn’t come your way, then you find another way. I was brought up with a very broad mind. I am a woman of color and I will always be proud of that. I also know that I will always have to go that extra 10 miles. And that’s fine. I’m okay with that. I’m okay with doing the extra 10 miles . . . My whole career is a challenge. I’m a challenge.”

I don’t get depressed. When I feel an attack, I withdraw. I disappear, I replenish, and then I come back. I’m not going to wallow in self-pity and not live my life. There are always going to be some falls in life for everybody, no matter what career you have. You have to roll with the punches and keep going.

We must say, Complex magazine is ALWAYS on point. The other day they released the KiD CuDi cover story the other day and yesterday Nicki Minaj’s was released.

On dumbing down her music so people can understand:

Sometimes the shit I say is over people’s heads and I feel like I need to dumb it down a bit so people can understand it. I think if I had said a lot of raps in a particular voice, people would go, “Yo, that shit was hard”—but when you change up your voice a little bit, they can’t see past that. And they’re lookin’ at me like, “This bitch is stupid”—and I’m lookin’ at them like, “No, bitch, you’re stupid.” [Laughs.]

On Diddy managing her:

Who said that? Who told you that? Did I tell you that? I don’t want you to say “obviously” if I didn’t tell you that, so let’s start that question over.

The entire interview is an interesting read (READ HERE) but it is obvious Nicki Minaj has her wall built high; she is doing her best not to let anyone pin-point her true personality.

In the latest issue of Complex magazine, KiD CuDi is letting nothing but his opinion flow with his feelings towards being dropped from Lady GaGa’s tour, fighting the mainstream, going against a Wale statement, his drug usage, amongst many other things.

On being incomparable to his contemporaries:

Did you see that Wale interview that he just did, comparing us to sports? Let me clear this up: I’m incomparable to anybody. I don’t care how people take that. No one can compete with me. I’m unfuckwittable; no one can knock me off my shit. I’m an unstoppable force, I’m a bullet. My trajectory is to the sky. Niggas got to do something really spectacular to fuck with me and my realm, and niggas be so bitter that you hear it in their voice.

The sound of his next album:

It’s explicit, but smart explicit. I’m not holding back. I have no regard for what people consider right or wrong. Some things I follow—like the law, from here on out. But other than that, I’m doing whatever the fuck I want to do. I’m not holding back. That’s why I’ve been so excited about this move to L.A., because I just want to keep growing creatively, all over, as a human being.

His heavy drug use:

I started doing cocaine to get through interviews, ’cause people wanted to know a lot about my personal life and I wasn’t prepared for a 60 Minutes interview every time. Doing bumps I was able to get through the day, but then I would smoke weed to calm me down—it was the only way I could get through the day without people noticing I was doing it.

On the entire Lady GaGa tour fiasco:

It was. I apologized to that young man I hit—we hung out, he’s the coolest kid in the world. But she’s going to kick me off the tour because she didn’t want that negative type of energy at her shows? Word? I never did nothing to that girl. Every time I saw her I gave her mad respect, showed her mad love. It didn’t matter, I still got paid. She spent all her money on her shows, so I probably made more off her tour than she did. That’s the “ha ha ha, isn’t it ironic?” moment.

N*E*R*D spoke had a one-on-one with Blackbook magazine to discuss their fourth studio album, Nothing. In the interview, the members discuss their different approach to the music all while keeping their unique and quirky style:

Williams’ deliberate shift from playboy to politico is felt all over Nothing, which he approached with a new-found sensitivity to global affairs. “We looked at the war, we looked at commerce, we looked at finance, we looked at the environment,” he says. It’s heavy stuff for a band whose inaugural single was called “Lapdance.” But, he adds, smiling, “We also looked at other interesting things, like the new Ferrari. I like a flower as much as I like a Ferrari. If it’s under the sun, why do I have to choose just one?”

For Nothing, 27 initial tracks were whittled down to the dozen or so that appear on the mastered album. The ones that got cut weren’t “magical,” Hugo says. “They were all great songs,” adds Williams, “but we needed something that will make people go, ‘What the fuck was that?’ When you hear this music, you’re gonna bug out.” Given the underwhelming critical reception of N.E.R.D’s last couple offerings, the band had better hope to blow a few minds. Photographer Blair J. Meadows was inspired by the catastrophic BP oil oil spill. Meadows chose five local models, placed them in swimsuits and set the tone for a dark themed photoshoot. Below is an excerpt of what the photoshoot is all about:

It’s been well over 100 days since the oil started to leak in the Gulf Coast – leaving countless amounts of animals and marine life in jeopardy, and turning “making a living” into trying to survive in a living hell. Predictions were made that the oil can possibly flow to the islands of the Bahamas. Most of us took this threat seriously seeing that we have no means of acting against it. However, in a matter of days we were back to normal: focusing on minor things such as where we go and how we dress. [SOURCE]

M.I.A. is the feature story for the June/July issue of Complex magazine as part of the promotion for her forthcoming album, /\/\ /\ Y /\ (MAYA). As with most interviews done by the visual artist, there is always a constant flow of opinions and introspect rolling out of her mouth.

On her admiration for Kanye West, as a person and an artist:

I think Kanye is trying to take it into a new realm and he’s sort of putting the artistry back into it and sort of taking it in that direction.

On her opinon of Jay-Z vs. Nas:

I was having a conversation about Jay-Z and Nas and how it was really crazy how they were having this Nas vs. Jay-Z moment 10 years ago and no one really talks about it now.

Jay became the biggest representation of rap music who’s still alive, started dating Beyoncé—everything was so much bigger and better with Jay-Z. I hope people don’t think that that wins. The fact that Nas didn’t become all this sort of stuff changes people’s perception about the music and the work he achieved in his lifetime. I don’t wanna say Jay-Z sold out, but I just feel like we have to wait another 10 years to see what happens. Jay-Z’s ambition was to become like Frank Sinatra, a household name all over the planet, and own a casino in Vegas and stuff like that. And I think Nas was really sticking to knowledge. After reading the entire interview you can’t help but admire her more and more because the thing with her is not about being comfortable, it’s all about awareness. Being uncomfortable is what ticks most people off. Also, sure, Kanye West is as great as she says he is, we always agree on that but there just comes a time when a person should know when to keep their mouth closed. Whilst Ciara tells us how much he loves the way she “Rides” it on the music front, she’s taking on job deux as a high fashion model for the pages of Vogue Paris in the June/July issue. The sexy and toned singer was shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott in a somewhat sexual pictorial entitled Coup De Foudre.
