It’s easy to agree that 2010 has seen a myriad of awesome fashions and as we look forward into 2011, CS has enlisted the help of the 2010 IWFW “Runway to Fashion Week” winner, Theodore Elyett, to give us the 2011 Fashion Forecast!
LADIES, WE ARE DONE WITH WAR! – Ladies please let the soldiers in the middle east handle the war gear! Military looks dominated runways and wardrobes for the last decade, but a more feminine “biker” look is what is hot for 2011′. Zippers, studs, buckles – all yes, but please let the war die! The only wardrobes which should include a militant look should be the males, as runway collections for 11′ clearly stated that for men–the war continues.
Feminine Ladies Emerge! - Will the real ladies please stand up! Good- Now lets trot to the 60′s for some inspiration for our wardrobes this year. Make feminine choices which include florals, dresses with sleeves [HELLO LANVIN....HELLO VALENTINO], and longer hemlines [...Oscar De Le Renta #theend! ]
70′s - Everyone say hello to American designer Marc Jacobs and his entire S/S 11′ collection which, form his gorgeous wide-legged pant ensembles alone, gives ode to the 70′s. Flowing airy garments should dominate wardrobe choices for 2011. Sheer and lightweight fabrics which embody fluidity will rule.
Sheer – By no means will there be a nudist revolution, but sheer wardrobe pieces should be considered a must. Maxi-dresses, a summer favorite, went sheer on runways for S/S 11′. [see also sheer blouses & tanks] Sheer tube skirts, capris and leggings from Italian label Emporio Amarni gave sheer pieces a unique platform of their own.
Stripes – Prada said it best, but even without Prada’s heralding-stripes are commonplace in S/S.
Playsuits – S/S collections featured various styles of playsuits & jumpsuits at Fashion Weeks around the globe. Careful attention to length and style for individual body types will play a key role in how effectively you master the look, feel and femininity of the piece. I know I threw a hand-printed short playsuit in my Islands of The World Fashion Week Collection and it was a hit.
Tug-o-war of Color – Black/Grey/White/Neutrals will play a tug-o-war with color as women and men express themselves in new and exciting ways. Those who are afraid of color will stick to their black/grey/white and neutral tone ensembles, but it should be noted that attention to cut, style and detail of the garment will give them just as much of a punch as those with an affinity for color who will express their sweet tooth for color in very bright and vibrant tones. 2011 runway predications showcased lots of neutrals, whites, greys, and a variety of bold and muted colors. As for the brutal A/W season, if we take a look at some Pre-Fall collections that are surfacing from designers at the moment, A/W 11′ will not be remiss of its fair share of color as well [blues, reds, greens], albeit not very many colors, but they will have a stake in the season. [p.s. let's not forget that "camel', which is more of a devout spring/summer neutral tone, was a hot color for A/W 10...more surprises like this could lie ahead for A/W 11']
Prints & Textures – Prints & Textures – My personal favorites! Whether they’re a hit or not they will always make my fash-predic-list! I think its pretty safe to say that prints and texture will be in this year though, as runway collections featured [lots and LOTS] of floral prints, African/Tribal inspired prints, crazy kaleidescope inspired prints, polka-dots and, last but by no means least, animal prints! Texture will make its way into wardrobes in 2011 via lace, denim [sidebar: denim-on-denim is forecast to see a come back], leather and other fabrics which provide a tactile experience.
MY ACCESSORY LIKES FOR 2011:
Turbans – WRAP IT UP! You won’t have to wait for another bad hair day to pull out your favorite head gear, turbans are IN! Printed, textured, solid colored — whatever your fancy — just wear them.
Cat Eye Sunglasses… & Grey Ants - Cat Eye sunglasses extend from the 50′s era, and because these handy accessories come in so many variations there should be no excuse for not having a pair! Grey Ants ..no long talking. Grey Ants, get them–and wear them. Your eyes should not be easily accessible to just anyone!! Don’t know what they are? #googleit
Well there you have it Fashion Gods and Goddesses. Although these items might be a bit high-end there are always opportunities to save and still look good. Now go out there and rock 2011 to the limit!
