REVIEW: Britney Spears Uses Dubstep In Dancefloor “Hold It Against Me”

brit hold it against me

The seventh era of Britney Spears is in full effect. The first single, “Hold It Against Me,” came early today, ahead of its Tuesday release. Premiering on Ryan Seacrest‘s Z100 show, the demo that leaked last week was not too far off from the mastered piece of music.

The dance club ready track is produced by longtime Britney collaborators, Dr. Luke & Max Martin. The gritty and pounding synths and lyrics are identical to the demo’s but as the song progresses some signature Spears’ touches are apparent i.e. her baby doll one-liners. Some way through the song we get to hear the dubstep Britney experimented with. It emerges in the form of a breakdown followed by another dance build up.

Britney Spears definitely came strong with this first single keeping up with the uptempo times of radio music but at the same type keeping it more complex with the implementation of another genre. The single is definitely a lot edgier than we thought but at the same time not as memorable. We cannot wait to see the direction of this new album but until then be prepared for Spears to eat up the charts with “Hold It Against Me.”
