• Big Boi & Janelle Monáe Collaborate Once Again, This Time On “Be Still”

  We’re still in foot motion from Janelle Monáe energetic tribute to Prince from the BET Awards this past Sunday. The motion runs on as she is featured on track number 10 of Big Boi’s Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty which you can preview in full HERE. We’ve been waiting on this album for a long while and now that it’s here we are impressed. Three quarters of the album we can jam to over and over.

  “Be Still” is a smooth midtempo which kicks off with Monáe’s honey vocals and some Price-esque basic beats. Monáe’s hook is sung in a whimsical fashion before handing it over to Big Boi to unleash that ever so stylish n’ hard hitting flow. There are many highlights on the album but it’s more than a pleasure to hear these stylish two together on the same track.

• Single Premiere: Jazmine Sullivan “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles)”

  Yeap, the lady who introduced Jazmine Sullivan with her first single is behind production duties for the first single off Sullivan’s upcoming sophomore album. Missy Elliott is the producer behind the just-released single from Jazmine Sullivan entitled “Holding You Down (Goin’ In Circles).”

  The first 24 seconds throw us off as Sullivan lets loose that voice over an old school inspired Hip-Hop beat. The bouncy beat switches into familiar territory right away: urban and deep soulful harmonizing. It seems as though team Sullivan are just going with the natural flow. That sound earned Sullivan her Grammy nom. so they’re going to continue to build on what listeners fell in love with the first time around. This is a very solid statement for a first single.

• Watch Rye Rye “Shake That Thing” In Riverside’s Video Feat. Twista

  DJ Riverside had lots of success with his track, “Riverside,” on many European charts and Australian charts in 2009. Now that track was picked up in 2009 by Ultra Records, Chicago native rapper Twista (remember him?) jumped on the beat with his signature bullet speed rhymes.

  The video is an urban/in-studio/club setting. NEET Recordings artist, Rye Rye, makes a cameo shakin’ her lil B’more tail off as if it was nothing. The song and video are so damn addictive and has us rapping super fast and dancing extremely hard.

• M.I.A. Is Drunk Off “TeqKilla”

  Another cut from M.I.A.’s upcoming album, /\/\ /\ Y /\, has been released as part of the iTunes promo deal. The latest song from the album is a Switch production and it is just as funky as past productions with its contorted rhythm, siren sound effects and electro knocks.

  This song is definitely a thumbs up and with each new listen from this album we’re liking it just a little bit more each time. This go around, we’re hearing a definite evolution and being very early supporters of the “outspoken” one we had to take a step back and try to consume this new meal she’s prepared.

  The premiere of Benny Benassi’s “Spaceship” featuring Kelis, Apl.de.ap & Jean-Baptiste has finally hit the net.

  Beny Benassi & co. take you on an outer space ride which ends up the crew landing on a planet. From there on the viewer is treated some amazing lighting effects and great neat CGI. The theme overall, complements the song so nicely.

• Congratulations BET: You Put On Your Best Awards Show, In Years

  We just wanted to take this post out to congratulate the BET Network for finally finding the right formula to produce an entertaining and well organized award show. Keeping in tradition, the show clocked in a 3+ hour runtime but that was okay because the performances were brilliant with the exception of maybe 1 or 2. Kanye West’s performance was filled with egoism but more importantly, power.

  Fast forward to Chris Brown’s Michael Jackson‘s tribute performance and the guy displayed his admiration for Jackson the best way he could, his dance moves. Brown did eventually break down into crying making him unable to get through his cover of “Man On the Mirror.” Many people had negative comments for the young entertainer but it was a great moment; it completely showed how gracious and grateful Chris brown was for the opportunity.

  It was also nice to see El Debarge return to the stage; jamming to the old school hits was so nostalgic. Accompanying that greatness was Prince, receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award. With the help of the amazing Janelle Monáe, Esperanza Spalding, Alicia Keys and Patti Labelle to cover some of Prince’s hits and Prince’s so humble yet icon exuding speech, it was 20 minutes of good television.

  The night was filled with other great moments: performances, acceptance speeches, deserving award winners. The atmosphere was just drenched in happiness and positivity, good job BET.

• Video Premiere: Fefe Dobson “Joy”

  The video for Fefe Dobson’s latest infectious single, “Ghost,” premiered the other day. The single is lifted from her forthcoming album entitled Joy, out August 17.

  Dobson is looking some kinda hot donning black and white pant suits. This video revolves around Dobson’s boyfriend in the video being caught in the act and it hits his conscience hard throughout the rest of the video turning him into a paranoid loon.

• Almost Video Premiere Time: Benny Benassi “Spaceship” feat. Kelis, Apl.de.ap & Jean Baptiste

  For awhile now, Benny Benassi’s lastest single, “Spaceship,” has been floating around on the net with behind-the-scenes images following shortly after. Now there is finally video footage of a behind-the-scenes look at the video.

  The video looks very “Fifth Elementesque,” to say the least and is being released through RayKay productions. The track has been getting fair play on our iTunes and if you have not listened to the single yet…:

  ‘Spaceship’ maintains the Benassi signature sound and adds a pop tinge which is laced with sultry vocals from globally renowned singer, Kelis, who recently released her gorgeous hit single ‘Acapella’. Together, Benassi and Kelis debuted the track at this year’s Ultra Music Festival in front of a record-breaking, sold-out crowd. Also collaborating on the single are Black Eyed Peas’ member, apl.de.ap and producer Jean-Baptiste, both of whom contribute incredible rhymes and vocal styling to the record.

• Kylie Minogue – ‘Aphrodite’: Love, Beauty, Sexuality & A Kick Ass Album

  We always knew the song “Locomotion” but did not know the pop star Kylie Minogue until she gained US success during the Fever era. The interest cooled down during the Body Language phase then the hype resurfaced with her tenth album, simply titled X. Whilst the album had some major highs it was inconsistent and didn’t reach Fever’s heights. Fast forward three years and her brand new single “All the Lovers” with the over-the-top Aphrodite theme hit the net. Without a second thought Minogue had the interest back to a Fever standard.

  Yesterday, the album leaked. The megamix and album snippets left an air of AMAZING throughout. A big obstacle with previews is they either surpass the full album or fail to show off just how great it is. In Aphrodite’s case, it’s the latter. From beginning to end the album is pure MAGIC. Minogue and her team literally knocked each track out of the park. Well there may be a track or two that do not deserve two thumbs up but it really does not affect the listening experience. With such gems as “Too Much,” “All the Lovers,” “Illusion,” “Aphrodite” and basically the rest of the album, Kylie Minogue has released what will probably one of the top Pop albums of 2010.
