You know how there are a handful of people who just don’t get the hype behind Lady GaGa, well that’s how it was and pretty much still is for Katy Perry. The very fun and colorful singer is gearing to release her follow-up to One of the Boys this summer and snippets from the album are starting to surface.
The three song snippets that leaked were of her first single, “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg, “In Between” and “E.T.” After Perry made the statement that she was sticking with a similar sound to her last album and then hearing these snippets, it’s pretty apparent. Here’s what she had to say about her lead single, “California Girls”:
“It’s so great that ‘Empire State of Mind’ is huge and that everyone has the New York song, but what the fuck? What about L.A.? What about California?
“It’s been a minute since we had a California song and especially from a girl’s perspective. We took the references of Prince, which is always a great reference, and some of the 90’s, almost house music references.” [SOURCE]
Well Katy, we’re liking what we here in this first single but this isn’t on any anthem level but definitely a HOT summer jam. Perry can sing but dunno what it is with her that doesn’t pop out.
