• Video Premiere: Christina Aguilera “Not Myself Tonight”

  We’re just getting around to reviewing this although we’ve watched the video at least 5 times by now. So the Hype Williams directed video for Christina Aguilera’s “Not Myself Tonight” hit the net first thing Friday morning. To quickly get this out of the way, the video is already being labeled as a 2nd rate “Bad Romance.” Be that as it may, It’s great to see Aguilera back on the scene. Read below our thoughts on the video:

  C’s Thoughts

  S&M get ups, p***y pops, leg spreads, breast grabbing, toned down orgies and whatever else makes softcore porn what it is is what this video is all about. Of course there is the rising popularity of product placement in the video as Aguilera returns with boiling sexuality in her latest video. “The Not Myself Tonight” video steps in line with the trend of most mainstream videos: style over substance

  Just like in her Stripped era, Aguilera really plays on her sexuality very well, almost too well. There is no doubting at how incredible she looks or how many fantasies she created in some people’s minds but after a handful of watches the video really gets old, quickly. After all this futuristic talk, we really thought Aguilera was taking the more artistic route. The video is great but hope it doesn’t set the tone for this whole era.

  S’ Thoughts

  Let me start by saying she looks beautiful in this video. Her body is fantastic and she clearly doesn’t lack the balls to show it off. The video is visually as good with her wardrobe and freaky-deaky apparel. On the other hand I found the video over the top sex(y). There were too  many extra spoonfuls of sugar in her sexed up Kool-Aid. It made me really uncomfortable to watch that with my 5 year-old niece in the room. But I guess you have to do what you have to do, when all else fails and you’ve already been bubble-gum pop, trashy dirty, beautiful (strike out) and back to clean again, the natural order of things is to sex it up again. In the end I’m happy she’s back and attempting to come out with a bang. Thank GOD the track sounds good.

• Lady Saw Gets NASTAYYYY On the ‘Hold Yuh’ Riddim

  We are still on that Gyptian “Hold Yuh” run and decided to look for other artists’ versions on the riddim. We came across Lady Saw’s explicit, xXx, bit of vulgarity.

  In signature Lady Saw fashion, she is speakin in a very unlady like way. From the lyrics alone, this song should be filed under pornography. BUT you know what she has a crazy flow and we love this riddim. Now go ahead and soil your ears.

• The Killers’ Frontman Brandon Flowers Confirms Solo Album

  After Las Vegas natives, The Killers, confirmed their “hiatus” speculation began on whether frontman Brandon Flowers was going solo or leaving the band altogether. It has now been confirmed that Brandon Flowers will release his first solo album under the title Flamingo:

  The Killers’ Brandon Flowers has confirmed he is set to release his debut solo album.

  The news comes after a mystery countdown clock appeared on their website – TheKillersMusic.com, which had left fans speculating since earlier in the week. [SOURCE]

  The details are still scarce but anything The Killers related is great to hear. From the material on the site, Flowers is not straying away from his Las Vegas roots. Also, that background music alone is turned up the anticipation to a very high level.

• Video Premiere: Jason Derulo “Ridin’ Solo”

  How many months has Jason Derulo’s album been out? More than one and we still have not listened to more than three songs on it. Now he is what you call a blatant gimmick, manufactured to the T. If we want what he’s offering we rather look above to the creator of his style, Michael Jackson. Besides that, the video for his latest single, “Ridin’ Solo,” just premiered.

  Smack us in the face and tell us to shut up because this song is undeniably catchy. The video itself is just a bunch of lights, trendy fashion and poor product placement but the song is such a mainstream addiction that we may just download listen to Derulo’s album after this. We must have forgot that there is a thing called manufactured greatness.

  It’s that TIME of year again when the most influential people in the world are named. Topping the list of the most influential artists is none other than International Popstar Lady GaGa who also makes the issue’s cover. Although GaGa’s career in the mainstream has only been about 2 years, she’s grabbing major accolades. Cyndi Lauper honored GaGa by writing and complimentary article for the issue:

  “I first heard the name Lady Gaga through a mutual friend. He couldn’t stop talking about her. Then I heard her music, and I thought, Wow, I love this kid.

  An artist’s job is to take a snapshot — be it through words or sound, lyrics or song — that explains what it’s like to be alive at that time. Lady Gaga’s art captures the period we’re in right now. These days, you go to a club and wonder who all these kids are. They don’t seem to have jobs. How can they afford to be here? Her song “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich” explains that scene. It’s about the New York prep-school party kids she grew up with. It’s where she came from. Gaga’s lyrics are incredibly literary. When “Bad Romance” starts, the music grabs your ear immediately. Then she opens with the line “I want your ugly/ I want your disease,” and all of a sudden you’re listening. Most of the stuff on the radio is not very clever, but Gaga presents her ideas in a sophisticated manner. She has an incredible pop sensibility.

  People forget how young she is. She is barely 24 — much younger than I was when I became famous. It’s very tough being where she is right now. People are pulling her in all different directions. It’s hard to navigate that. (more…)

• Early Bird Review: Robyn’s ‘Body Talk Pt. 1′

  It’s been 5 years since the original release of Robyn. Half a decade since a new Robyn album and you can bet that fans were shaking with excitement when “Dancehall Queen” prematurely leaked under the title of “No Hassle.” A month after that the flood came.

  Robyn announced her plan to release 3 albums in one year, starting off with Body Talk Pt. 1. Her reason behind the three separate albums was so she could freshly release the music as it was created instead of making the fans wait for a single from an album that is almost a year or two old. So now that listeners knew the title and concept behind the albums and it was time for the music.

  “Dancehall Queen” had already been heard and the next song to slap our ears was the electro “Fembot.” The heavy bassline, grinding synths and static sounds sounds like something that came right off the track list of Robyn. The next song to be previewed was the urban-electro, Röyksopp produced “None of Dem” but unfortunately it did not make the track list of B.T. Pt. 1. The dark vibe and DEEP bassline instantly put a few listeners in a daze.

  The standout track on the album, the one which leads the pack as first single is the disc-electro “Dancing On My Own.” Everyone really was under the impression that it was another Kleerup produced song due to its resemblance to Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat.” Patrik Berger was actually the mind behind the song.

  There were 3 songs left to hear; one more uptempo dance number in the form of “Cry When You Get Older” and then finishing off with the beautiful ballad, “Hang With Me,” and a cover of the Swedish folk song, “Jag Vet En Dejlig Rosa.” The album could have done without that cover…

  Body Talk Pt.1 is a brilliant piece of work from Robyn. With each new musical project from Robyn she displays growth and proves she is an artist. Also, what you will discover about Body Talk Pt. 1 is Robyn is continuing what made her last album so great. The music is very much what we heard on Robyn 5 years ago but it’s executed in a way that is natural and not forced to try to hold onto some success. C.S. approves Body Talk Pt. 1. • Drake Finds Your Love With Second Single

  Being 100% honest, we’ve been forcing ourselves to like “Over.” That could have a lot to do with us liking the singer Drake much more than the rapper.

  After the hype yesterday, we waited around for Drake’s second single, “Find Your Love,” from Thank Me Later to leak but it never came. We went to sleep and woke up to the song being plastered all over, no pun intended.

  Drake switches gears on the Kanye West produced track; he pushes the singer in him to the forefront. Upon first listen, the beat was definitely inspired by the 808′s & Heartbreak sessions as it could have easily been a bonus track b-side. This song is also a lot more radio friendly than “Over” and will most likely chart higher. Our final verdict, we love it.

• FIRST SINGLE ALERT: Eminem’s “Not Afraid” Off ‘Recovery’

  Shortly after announcing the scrapping of Relapse 2, Eminem announced the upcoming release of Recovery. News leaked earlier this week that the first single would drop this Friday, tomorrow. Well you know how the internet goes, it receives everything first. This morning, the first single, “Not Afraid,” produced by Boi-1da leaked.

  This song goes hard. The gent who co-produced Drake’s “Over” is behind this one and gives Em a cool mainstream beat for his rhymes. Of course another pull with this song has to do with the singing in the hook. We like to give credit where it’s due and this already has us interested in Recovery, which is much more than we can say for what Relapse did for us.

  Yesterday, B.o.B’s debut LP, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, was released and if you have been around these parts in the last month or two you will know that our appreciation for his music almost instantly skyrocketed.

  Bobby Ray Simmons is no one new to the music scene. He has been releasing consistently great material in the form of mixtapes and has been featured on a few established artists’ songs. Now it’s his time to shine and the light started to gleam with the release of his first single, “Nothin On You” featuring Bruno Mars which managed to become the #! on the Billboard Hot 100. With the major success of the single, his debut LP was even pushed up, another rare thing in the music industry.

  B.o.B. is considered a rapper but with this album he will be considered as an artist, to say the least. His resistance to conform with his perfect mix of crooning and rhyming further takes the style of mixing Indie and Hip-Hop to higher levels.

  “Don’t Let Me Fall” begins the adventure and sets the tone of the whole entire album; the hybrid style of rapping and singing over not-so-urban beats. The album progresses very smoothly reaching the potential Billboard Hot 100 #1, “Airplanes” featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore. Part 2 features Eminem and is just as strong or stronger than the original. A futuristic melancholy vibe is felt on “Ghost On the Machine” as B.o.B raps/sings the obscure lyrics. Label boss, T.I., makes an appearance in “Bet I.” It is one of the few songs on the album that is undiluted urban. The rest of the album continues the adventure switching up between eclectic, rapping, singing and urban which makes for a beautiful sonic ride.

  B.o.B Presents… will attract many in the hipster crowd; those with an ear for something a little left-field. Consumers looking for a concentrated urban fest will most likely leave this one alone. The album only goes 12 tracks deep but there are a handful of bonus tracks to make up for the empty space. With a few adjustments this could be an album of the year but is still still an incredibly strong debut. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM! View “Bet I” video after…
