Video Premiere: Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” feat. Nicki Minaj & Co.

So another video from Ludacris’ Battle of the Sexes has premiered. This one is for “My Chick Bad” featuring Nicki Minaj. Also, Trina, Eve and Diamond make cameos but it is unclear whether or not the remix video was shot as well as their appearances are less than brief.

The video is decent with it’s all black theme, flashes of red and aggressive nature; it matches the song well. So the video is hot but our general feeling towards Battle of the Sexes isn’t so nice anymore. After listening to other clips from the album it just seems too made for radio in a compromising way… Anyway, we’ll save it for another post, another day.

NEW! Janet Jackson Sets the Place On Fire With “Heartbeat Love”

Miss Jackson if ya nasty… Yup, Darkchild and Janet turn up the heat with the taste of potential of what’s to come from Jackson’s eleventh studio album. The song also features Machel Montano and Rock City.

We absolutely love this song. It’s upbeat, makes us want to get up and move and guess what it isn’t electro or dance. We love those genres but what a breath of fresh air those hard hitting tribal beats are against the blur of all things electro in mainstream music today. We are really looking forward to this new album now.

NEW! Frankmusik “Losing Streak” With Computer Club

Frankmusik has left his debut, Complete Me, behind to complete his sophomore album entitled Follow the Leader. Already we have the first single, “Losing Streak,” which is a collaboration with a Computer Club.

The sound is not a great departure from what we’ve heard before; it’s the familiar electro/dance sound except a little grittier. Frankmusik’s lyrics have also taken a slight turn with him saying such things as, “She will swallow, not your d*ck, just you brain…” The hook is really wild, like an engine revving up. Take a listen!

Here’s the latest video premiere from Timbaland’s mediocre Shock Value II, “Carry Out” featuring Justin Timberlake.

The video is definitely one of the better to come out of this era with its drive-through theme and neat lighting effects… that’s all. When is Justin going to bless us all with some new music?

Ozomatli “It’s Only Paper” With Jack Johnson

Los Angeles “culture-mashers”, Ozomatli, are set to release their fifth studio album on April 20 entitled Fire Away. The album’s first single, “It’s Only Paper”, has been released and it features Jack Johnson as the vocalist. Ozomatli’s music is described as:

Ozomatli’s music — a collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LA R&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga — has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around the city of Los Angeles.

As long as they’ve been around we’re just becoming acquainted with their music and we like it so far. Producer Tony Berg had this to say about the upcoming album:

…describes working with Ozomatli “like visiting seven continents simultaneously”. Berg believes the Fire Away sessions “captured the spirit of the band’s live show without being a live album,” and he sensed Ozomatli stretching themselves in the studio, adding “each of the members had grown as a writer and as a musician. I think Fire Away reflects their true songwriting talents–everyone’s point-of-view was captured. That is the spirit of Ozomatli. They’re pan-cultural, and they somehow manage to be raucous and thoughtful at the same time.”

Dapper Drake for GQ Magazine

Drake appears in the March 2010 issue of GQ magazine. Styled in designer threads, Drake puts his urbanwear on hold for a more stylized corporate look ‘n look at all that facial expression. Who knew, we thought doing a spread in GQ would soften their harder image.

Corinne Baily Rae “Paris Nights/New York Mornings” Music Video

Below is the music video for the lovely Corinna Bailey Rae’s “Paris Nights/New York Mornings”:

The Sea entered The Billboard 200 at No. 7, selling upwards of 53,000 copies in its first week of release. The album was also #2 on the R&B album chart, #3 on the digital album chart and #6 on the internet album chart. Corinne will return to the States for appearances on “Late Show with David Letterman” (March 1st), “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (March 8th) and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (April 4th).

The-Dream, “LoveKing”

Tonight, R&B heads get to listen to the beginning of the last of The-Dream’s solo career. “Love King” is the title and first single from The-Dream’s third solo album. The album has an unofficial release date of May 17.

Hmmm we have some serious mood swings with Mr. Nash’s craft. Some of his music is genius and other times it’s no wonder he got the Grammy snub. “Love King” is definitely the latter; we’ve heard this sound too many times before, it’s tired. Let’s hope he goes out with a bang and not just fades to black.

If you’re not a popstar and you want to comeback HUGE then take a long break in between albums. Ask Maxwell and now you can ask Sade as the band’s sixth studio album to be released after 10 years just went #1 on the Billboard 200 selling 501,665 copies. [SOURCE]

Sade, the band, has our ears and Sade Adu has us completely fascinated by her existence; she is a rarity in the industry. The album is absolutely beautiful; each song has it’s own shine. The album very much deserved those sales.

Because of This, Gorillaz “Stylo” Is the Jam

We’ll be honest, to this very second we cannot get into the original of Gorillaz new single, “Stylo.” We just have had enough of this dark theme running through a lot of our favorite music; it works for some and not really others. Our whole opinion has changed now with this Labrinth SNES remix featuring Tinie Tempah.

The song is a bit more upbeat now and it’s not so dark anymore plus who doesn’t love vintage video game sounds. From the tidbits that have been leaked from Plastic Beach we probably will like the album and it will be critically accalimed but it most likely won’t be a personal favorite.

UPDATE: Well looky here, we have yet another great remix of “Stylo”: the DJ Kofi remix This one features a swooping bassline, lots of hi-hat action and some crowd chanting. Check it out!
