The Gorillaz’ new single, “Stylo”, leaked today and it features Mos Def and Bobby Womack. The single is off their upcoming album entitled Plastic Beach. We’ve been without new Gorillaz for awhile but the question is whether or not the song is extremely good or do we like it more because of their long absence?
In this case, with this choice of single, it’s because of the latter. “Stylo” is exactly what it was described as: “a dark, twisted track that sounds like the ‘Saturday Night Fever’ soundtrack on MDMA.” It’s not as fun as “Feel Good Inc.” and as true music lovers we can appreciate that but for casual listeners it won’t do the trick. Even with the features: Mos Def is not as prominent as he could have been. All in all, it’s a decent song but doesn’t blow us away.
