Yesterday, two tracks that were put up for preview leaked from Robin Thicke’s Sex Therapy. The first was “Shakin’ It For Daddy” feat. Nicki Minaj and the Jay-Z collab, “Meiplé (Me I Play).”
“Shakin’ It For Daddy” featuring Nicki Minaj had a radio premiere the other day and it features femcee of the moment Nicki Minaj. At first listen it sounds like this is Minaj’s single and Thicke is the feature. He completely ditches his signature elemental sound for a mainstream made-for-radio urban banger. We stick with our original opinion though; whilst the song will have you moving you can’t help but find this song degrading to Thicke because his preceding work is far superior to this mindless music.

“Meiplé (Me I Play)” featuring Jay-Z is another change for Thicke but this song is much closer to his organic sound and more appealing than the former. The song revolves around the two’s love for French women and everything else that is luxurious. The Neptunes’ production is insanely bouncy and peculiar but in the best way. The Brigitte Bardot sample of “Moi Je Joue” adds another layer of attraction to this song. Jay-Z drops a knockout verse where he references Beyoncé several times; “Me and little Tina…” This song’s left-field nature makes us fall deeper in like for it by the second.

It’s obvious Thicke is going for a more commercial sound for Sex Therapy. So far, some of it works and some of it doesn’t. Either way we are going to be pick up this one.
