Lady GaGa Premieres “Bad Romance” on SNL, Well Sort Of

Lady+GaGa SNL

When it was announced that Lady GaGa’s newest single, “Bad Romance”, from The Fame Monster would premiere in a performance on Saturday Night Live it put some excitement into her fans. A few days days later a demo of “Bad Romance” leaked and it sounded like a dated b-side of her RedOne collaborations. In defense Lady GaGa tweeted that the leaked version made her ears bleed and to wait until the real version premiered. Well last night was Saturday…

In usual SNL fashion Lady GaGa, the guest performer, performed twice. Her first performance was a medley of “Love Game”, “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face”.

We commend Lady GaGa for always switching up her songs from the way they sound on CD in her live performances (that remixed intro of Love Game was pretty cool) but this performance did not come off as it was probably intended to. That large orbital contraption was a huge distraction as it kept knocking her in the head. Then there was that little snippet of “Bad Romance” and unfortunately we cannot give a review of the single because it was too short and most likely was just an acoustic version of the song. As for “Poker Face” we all know how that sounds in acoustic form.

The second performance was of her latest single, “Paparazzi”. Here again she switched it up with the intro then it went into an underwhelming performance until she did that little melody with the keytar and pyrotechnics in the background.

When we first saw Lady GaGa in May of 2008 she was intriguing and seemed to be genuinely doing her own thing. As time has passed and she has become a mainstream sensation we are starting to lose that fascination. Her niche as an artist seems to be more about shocking the viewer rather than being original because an artist can be original but still go unnoticed. With GaGa if she is not receiving some sort of attention for it then there’s no point. It’s a sad reality because she truly is talented.
