• Video Premiere: Mary J. Blige “The One” feat. Drake

  The video premiere for Mary J. Blige’s “The One” featuring Drake premiered a short while ago.

  We weren’t feeling the song when it first leaked but the video has changed all of that. The first thing we asked; does Mary J. have the moves for an uptempo song like this? Apparently so because she’s letting off her lil choreography steps and her bop, we can’t forget that lil bop LOL. The freeze frame camera effects, the black light/neon lighting all work for the video. The dancers do a great job; the moves are very slick. Then there’s Drake; when he comes in with that auto-tuned “UHHH OHHH” it was like get ‘EM. His presence was felt and he complemented Mary in the video. We did notice the multiple mirrors were brought in from the “Just Fine” video… We are excited for Mary’s new album now.

• M.I.A. Gives Us The Very Best Rain Dance

  Anything new from M.I.A. is welcomed by us and it wouldn’t be our favorite visual artist if she wasn’t doing something worldly. M.I.A. is featured on a sing by The Very Best under the title “Rain Dance” from their upcoming album Warm Hearts of Africa.

  The song starts off with the sound of a rain stick with the vocals of Esau Mwamwaya giving life to the song at about 0:30. The addition of clapping, drums and M.I.A. continue to add drama and complexity to this cultural African song. M.I.A. literally fits this song like a glove and both she and The Very Best are giving us all kinds of funky vibes with this one. We’re practicing some tribal dancing as we speak. • Matisyahu’s ‘Light’

  Since Matisyahu’s “King Without a Crown” had us jammin’ back in 2004 we skipped a beat and missed out on his sophomore studio album, Youth, in 2006. Now he is back with his third effort entitled Light after a few push backs. The album is rock, reggae and alternative blended into one solid release.

  The lead single “One Day” is a very up-lifting song with one heck of a beautiful melody. The subject matter pertains to him seeing a world with no negativity and just everyone living in optimism. The rest of the album runs along this line with a lot of inspiring music.   Just the other day the September 2009 issue of i-D magazine was revealed with models Jourdan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez, Chanel Iman and Arlenis Sosa on the cover. Yesterday the behind-the-scenes video showed up on the magazine’s website and today the editorial “Thriller” found its way into the forums. • Pitbull Shuts It Down

  Pitbull is getting ready to release his fourth studio album Rebelution next week on the 1st of September. As always albums leak in advance on the net and we were able to preview it. It’s apparent Pitbull has gone the route of Flo-Rida and revamped his sound to the ever-so-popular dance/electronic influenced sound. By doing this he will appeal to a broader audience hence more record sales.

  Many of the songs are good; certainly not timeless but we did enjoy the song featuring Akon entitled “Shut It Down”. Many of Pitbull’s songs on the album sample popular dance songs but we’re not aware if this this is an original beat or inspired by some other club track. With a heavy bassline and robotic synths, what’s not to love. You can pre-order Rebelution HERE.

  Just before, we brought you the 10 second preview and now here is the full version of Mariah Carey’s second(official) single of the 1984 hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner.

  IMPRESSIVE! Mariah has brought the voice back from The Emancipation of Mimi era. After a string of generic songs from E=MC² and the buzz single “Obsessed” we get to hear that classic sound that the “lambs” have been waiting for. Not saying this isn’t radio’s close friend either because it has a lot of mainstream appeal which should help this to reach #1. When listening to it, it screams international which should help it reach high in the radio charts of many countries and will even have the average listener tuned in. This is not the greatest Mariah song but it is the best from her in some time. The only complaint is it seems as if the song fades too quickly despite it having a time of over 3 minutes.   Earlier today we received an email that Mariah Carey’s first official single, the Foreigner’s cover of “I Want to Know What Love Is”, will premiere on European radios tomorrow, August 28, 2009. As you know the European countries are many hours ahead so they they’ve already teased us with a clip. Listen to the ten second clip below from the German Radio Station Planet Radio.

• Timbaland Spills the Beans on Shock Value 2

  Via a live web-stream last night, Timbaland released information on the follow-up to the mega-successful Timbaland Presents…Shock Value. Titled simply, Shock Value 2 like the first will be very similar to all other producer albums; each and every beat is from that one producer with vocals from some of the hottest artists. Timbaland previewed about six songs and ADMITS he reserved his best material for himself when working with Jay-Z. LOL uh oh, you can’t be teasin a sensitive ego like that.   We’re looking at this and there are no surprises. Yes, a good line-up but it would have been interesting to see a lineup with Santigold, Adele, Lupe Fiasco, etc… you know what we mean? We’re glad he admitted to the recent Jay-Z productions not being his best because whilst it wasn’t bad it was not a great evolution from the ‘maestro of producing’. We look forward to Shock Value 2 which is estimated to be released in the first quarter of 2010.

  The video for David Guetta’s “Sexy Bitch” feat. Akon premiered via Yahoo and well y’know those Youtube rippers are always on top of their game.

  Like “When Love Takes Over”, there is not too much of a storyline. The video is basically one long party clip; there are scenes of Akon taking polaroids with the many women he parties with, there’s a pool party and there’s a performance at a nightclub towards the end. The video is just an overall fun/upbeat clip that fits the song perfectly. The bass in this song is bangin’.

• VH1′s ‘Behing the Music’ Returns with Lil Wayne

  On September 10, 2009 VH1 will bring back its Emmy award winning show Behind the Music. The premiere episode will showcase Lil Wayne where he most likely will discuss his multiple ‘baby mamas’, substance abuse, his many criminal charges, and his never ending line of success. Tha Carter III, according to the Billboard 200, was the third highest selling album of 2008 behind Alicia Keys As I Am and Josh Groban’s Noel.
