Another forthcoming cut from Mariah’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel is here for us to preview with The-Dream singing the demo. The demo is for the song “They Don’t Know Me”.
The-Dream is somethin’ else. His mind is perfect to interpret women’s feelings; no wonder he landed C. Milli. Also his talent for singing in a falsetto is off the wall but back to the song. The faith is being restored in Mimi’s album; that it won’t be a group of forgettable radio friendly tunes. Tricky Stewart’s production on this one is chilled and the overall vibe is smooth and melodical. The-Dream’s singing style is a great reference to how Mariah will actually sound so it’s almost like listening to the final version. Great stuff!
Everyone’s ears are becoming reacquainted with Whitney Houston’s voice since “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” was used a promotional buzz last month. Now the title track of the album has been released. It’s uncertain whether or not this is another promotional song or if it will be an accompanying single to “Million Dollar Bill” featuring Swizz Beatz.
Like we said the other day Whitney is back; her music seems to a be true a reflection of where she is today. People may complain that this is not a progression of any sound of hers but in this case it’s not the point. This is not a trendy album that she and Clive have concocted; it’s an album of classics that will still be able to be played umpteen years from now.
The song itself is very powerful. We may have received more of a thrill after listening to the snippet than this full version but it’s still a great song nonetheless. Also, not to be disrespectful but it would be cool if the studio version of the R. Kelly’s version is released because it very much rivals that of Whitney’s rendition.
This Imperial Blaze era has not been Sean Paul’s best for sure but today a new one from him entitled “She Wanna Be Down” leaked. The funny thing about this song is it’s the best we’ve heard thus far but it’s also a bonus track. Maybe it’s because we have not heard the rest of the album but if his label is choosing the better tracks for the bonus then there might be a problem.
Hot97 just premiered the most anticipated song of the week in the urban community 30 minutes late. Yup, Jay-Z’ official first single for The Blueprint³ entitled “Run This Town” with Rihanna singing the hook and Kanye assisting with an added verse just dropped.
Hmmm it’s an alright song nothing to be blown away by; Rihanna’s vocals are still on the same level as they were last year and Kanye’s verse is the hottest part of the whole song. No matter what this will get airplay like nothing else. So go ahead and give it a listen.
UPDATE: Finally, the CDQ and single cover are available.
Those of you who have become well acquainted with us should know by now we enjoy talent in its purest form. This time we had the opportunity of speaking with the South Eastern Londoner who goes by the name of Bluey Robinson.
Bluey Robinson, the emerging singer/songwriter, had his hands in music and performing from since he was a youth and within the last few years decided to perfect his craft to basically become the star he’s destined to be. His musical style is very eclectic as he’ll experiment with many sounds; his taste for music extends far and is quite vast.
Having the opportunity to speak with Bluey, we realize that although his path is to align with the stars he’ll somehow always manage to leave part of himself on Earth. He was very easy to speak with and is open; something you’ll notice with all the laughter that occurred. So pop the top to continue on to get to know more of this brilliant artist. You can connect with Bluey via Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Youtube or his website.
Here’s a new one from N.O.R.E. entitled “Floating In the Sky” featuring everyone’s favorite Martian, KiD CuDi. What much can we say except that both emcees go hard on this one. Give it a listen!
After returning to the states from the London listening party of I Look to You, R&B diva Whitney Houston and music legend Clive Davis gave a NYC audience a preview of what’s to come from Houston’s release. The event took place at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center last night. It’s been 8 years since we had an album from Whitney so the anticipation is high.
In a room filled with everyone from Alicia Keys to Martha Stewart, Whitney’s new album was followed by many standing ovations. It appears this truly is Houston’s time to shine again. We previously had the opinion that this would be a warm-up album for her but this seems to be what The Emancipation of Mimi was for Mariah. Also a 30 sec. snippet of the title track from the listening party has appeared online.
CLASSIC, TIMELESS, A DAMN BEAUTY! Whitney Houston has returned. The R. Kelly demo is just as great and Whitney executes this song with such ease. This does not disappoint, we’ll be listening to this twenty years from now. Also, Whitney’s official first single is “Million Dollar Bill” (written and produced by Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats). It is described as:
An up-tempo, joyful track about love and probably one of the funkiest songs Whitney has ever done. “Million Dollar Bill” has an amazing bass line and almost recalls early Michael Jackson in Off The Wall. The catchy hook, “You make me feel like a million dollar bill.” Her vocal is strong with some power notes toward the end. The song has an Alicia Keys sound but fits for Whit — it’s current without making her seem like she is trying to compete with teenagers. The song received a standing ovation. [SOURCE]
A bonus track from Jordin Sparks sophomore album entitled “Vertigo” is now out since the album is out now. This is a strong effort and should have been included on the album’s track list. It’s very much a pop/electro song with Jordin using autotune. There’s something addictive about the intro part of the instrumental. Battlefield is in stores TODAY.
Despite previous reports stating that “Off That” featuring Drake would be the official lead single, Hot 106 reported yesterday that Jay’s first single will be a collaboration between himself, Kanye West and Rihanna. The single entitled “Run This Town” is rumored to hit the radio airwaves this Friday the 24th of July.
Talk about a ‘radio killa’, the hype alone from this single will push Jay’s album off the shelf. You have Rihanna who has mainstream pop central behind her, Kanye with the trend setting followers and Jay has the die-hard hip-hop’s crowd following. Basically they all have a HUGE following which will no doubt bring in the listeners even if the quality of the song is mediocre. Plus people have been itching to hear some new music from Rihanna.
In other promo news for the single the trio is supposed to perform the song at ’09 VMA‘s live from NYC which will also marks Rihanna’s first televised event appearance since Febraury’s incident. The Blueprint³ will also feature KiD CuDi, MGMT, Drake, and Mr. Hudson. You all know where to check when the song hits the net.
Another single from Nelly Furtado’s Mi Plan has appeared. Más was released on iTunes this morning and will be the official single off the Spanish album.
As we cannot understand the Spanish fully a great part of the deciding factor of what makes it great is everything but the lyrics. “Más” is a really great song and we favor it over “Manos Al Aire”. We miss the more folk Nelly but this more pop induced sound is just as good.
