So we’ve been slacking off a bit because although our main focus is music we do cover other aspects of entertainment, or news media. So here’s a little analyzation of a recent fashion editiorial.
Aren’t Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington some of the most gorgeous creatures you’ve seen in years of past and present? These pictures were shot for an editorial for Vogue Italia shot by Mario Sorrenti.
Well those of you who take the time to read the posts we type would know we make mention of the overuse of Photoshop to alter images for commercial exposure. So the thought occurred, who is the real artist anymore; the photographer or the retoucher?
Since the 90′s it seems that the images of public figures tend to look more and more like C.G.I.’s (Computer Generated Image), especially in fashion. Come on, Naomi Campbell is beautiful but most people know her hairline is a few inches farther back than it is in the picture above because of all those hair extensions. Then their skin; it’s one thing to have clear skin it’s another thing to have skin that’s very similar in texture to a wax figurine.
Back then a Photographer who knew his skill like the back of his hand and a model who was pretty much flawless were needed to sell products. Today you can pretty much get anyone that’s decent looking to be featured on a magazine, hire a retoucher and viola you have some out of this world image. Perhaps it’s the reason why the models dropped from being golden stars to just working girls and women. But any model today will tell you that they are as shocked as the person viewing the photo as they know they do not look that imperfection free.
In conclusion, I guess it’s safe to say that in the many upcoming years the reality of beauty will continue to fade away until photographers become extinct.

This is a really good question…I am into Photography and i don’t even have a good answer but…..Photographer.
I agree but with today’s standards a retoucher they are so important. A photo won’t even be released unless it’s retouched.
