Jeremih

If there is one current artist who has experienced lightening speed success then it’s a young gent who goes by the name of Jeremih. The last time an urban-pop artist had that quick of success was back in 2006. Does Cassie ring a bell? We all know how her career has so greatly blossomed but we have a feeling Jeremih will be walking along a better paved road. His single “Birthday Sex” was running around on all the blogs and was gaining major buzz within the industry. “Birthday Sex” peaked at #4 on the Billboard 100 and #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Then just this past February he met with Island Def Jam chairman L. A. Reid and executive vice president of A&R Karen Kwak. He performed a set for the two and just like that he was signed on the spot.

The album (produced completely by Mike Schultz) itself is a very good debut. Listening to the snippets on Amazon it seemed pretty lackluster but after a full listen our opinion changed. Each song leans towards a pop sound rather than R&B as everyone thinks he is. Urban-pop is exactly what Jeremih is. With a solid effort it he should be back for a second round. Jeremih is in stores June 30, 2009. Shouts to Greg for the tip.
