This week’s results for the Billboard 200 were released with Mississippi native Rick Ross debuting at number 1 with his third album Deeper Than Rap. I know we here on C.S. did not give it any deep coverage but it was a really good album. Despite all the ignorant beef going on between Rick and 50 Cent, Ross was able to produce a solid album with a release atop the Billboard 200. The album sold 158,000 copies which is decent. Hannah Montana: The Movie‘s soundtrack came in second place with another 104,000 copies sold and Depeche Mode’s Sounds of the Universe came in third with 80,000 copies. In fourth and fifth place were Rascall Flatt’s Unstoppable, with 68,000 movements and Asher Roth’s debut Asleep In The Bread Aisle pushing 65,000 off of store shelves.
Lady GaGa’s The Fame is still holding out in the top 10 at number 7 with another 40,000 units sold.
In the singles’ report Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow” is still number 1 in the U.S. with 226,000 legal digital downloads.
The Colombian with the hips is back. Yes, the sexy Shakira is set to release her first single in June from her yet-to-be titled album with an estimated release in September. No information has been released on what the direction of the album will be but for goodness sake let’s hope she experiments a little.
Back in the days when I purchased just about every LP that came out (those were the days TRL was number 1 and 106 & Park was AJ & Free), I purchased Laundry Service. I was extremely disappointed, that’s before I had sense to know that it’s sex appeal that carries these women in the music industry that lack in other areas. Well I say that to say Shakira produces albums to which only 1 or 2 songs are really good, the rest is favored by those who have a particular taste for her horse-style of musical expression.
